HARRYEVEN after Blair's performance, I still couldn't comprehend the fact that my girlfriend was pregnant. I was undeniably happy, but also somewhat scared. I was sort of thrown into the situation in a way, but I was so excited to see where everything would go.
It was now time for Blair to accept her woman of the year award, so she sat in the front row
of the audience away from all of our friends and family so that it would be easier to make it to the stage and accept her award.Nobody had any idea who would be presenting Blair her award, and I knew how anxious she was to find out.
A graphic now spread across the large screen on stage that read woman of the year. It was time. The moment we all had been anxiously anticipating for the past few months.
I was standing next to Pete Davidson backstage, waiting for my que to walk on to the podium. My palms began to sweat and I swallowed hard. My anxiety was growing at a rapid pace.
Another producer waved me on stage, giving me the signal to walk on and begin.
I stepped onto the black stage and waved out to the audience. I locked eyes with Blair, who was clearly confused by the turn of events.
I smiled and gave her a slight nod of reassurance, letting her know that in that moment, everything was alright.
I cleared my throat and adjusted the microphone to sit directly in front of my mouth. "When I was asked to present this award, I honestly thought I was the wrong fit." I began to say.
Everyone in the audience, including Blair, had now caught on that I was the one presenting her the award. She placed her forehead into her hands and shook her head with a small grin.
Behind me on a large screen, the videos that Blair and I made together when we first met displayed across the screen.
Videos of her reacting to my music, cutting my hair, and basically doing everything together spread across the screen, while the faint sounds of our laughter played in the background.
I turned my back to the audience for a split second to glance at the videos, admiring everything Blair and I had accomplished together up until that moment in time.
"But then I thought about it some more, and thought about the impact Blair Klein has had on my life," I smiled.
"When I met her six months ago at a dirty bar, she was one of the most vibrant people in the room. We talked for hours, and somehow, we ended up here." I continued on.
My mom and sister were tearing up in the audience at my speech.
"Now she's apparently having my baby?! Thanks for the heads up by the way, angel." I nodded to Blair. My comment made the audience erupt into a loud burst of laughter.
"But seriously. I can't name a woman more deserving of this award. Blair has shown me what it means to be loved and to love someone. She's showed me what hard work and determination looks like. She showed me that she's all I'll ever need." I smiled.
Small tears were falling out of Blair's eyes now. My own eyes filled up with liquid at the sight of her as well, but I cleared my throat and continued the speech.
"That's why tonight, ladies and gentleman of the Billboard Awards, I am beyond honored to present the woman of the year award to the one and only Blair Klein." I finished.
The audience erupted into a sea of cheers and hollers, all congratulating blair on her lifetime achievement.
She climbed up from her seat and made her way to the stage, waving at fans and family seated in the audience. Blair walked up the stage towards me and shyly giggled, clearly overwhelmed.
I wrapped her into a tight hug and placed a kiss on top of her head, then released her.
It was time for her acceptation speech.
"Wow. This is fucking crazy." She laughed slightly.
"Um no, seriously. Thank you. I love you all. This means the whole world to me." She smiled, holding up the award in front of her and staring at it.
"I want to thank my friends. Victoria, Troye, Mikey. You guys know who you are. This album wouldn't even be a thing without you guys. I love all of you." She smiled.
From where I was standing, I could make out slight puddles of tears forming in her large brown doe eyes.
I took a few small steps toward her and wrapped my arm around her shoulders, giving her a slight squeeze.
"I want to thank my family. I love you guys so much. Thank you for not giving up. God, I know how annoying I am. I love you." She laughed and blew kisses to her family in the audience.
Her speech was so unbelievably unprepared, but that's what made it beautiful. It was raw and true to Blair, not some fake and rehearsed speech.
"And Harry. Where do I even start?" She laughed, turning to me and smiling. I moved closer to her and wrapped my arm around her, placing another kiss atop her head. Her nervous demeanor was practically pouring out of her.
"Oh my God, I'm not gonna cry right now. That's so annoying and gross." She scoffed sarcastically.
The audience laughed with her again at her comment.
As I looked into the crowd, everyone was laughing and crying together. We were all brought together by Blair in that moment, and to me, that's really fucking powerful.
"Thank you, Harry. I know I'm needy and annoying and hard to deal with, but thank you. Thank you for sticking with me and not giving up. Thank you for being so kind and generous. Thank you for taking me in when I needed someone the most. And thank you for being the best future father." She smiled as silent tears poured out of her eyes, staining her rosy colored cheeks.
She clutched the necklace I gave her to her chest and took a deep breath, attempting to compose herself.
"I don't want to stand up here and cry. I'm not gonna cry. That's so annoying." She laughed again.
"But no. Thank you. I love all of you so much, and wouldn't be here without you. You're some dope ass people. Goodnight! Peace!" She called out, throwing up a peace sign as she turned away from the podium and faced me.
I gripped her shoulders and smiled as we both attempted to catch our breath.
"I'm so proud of you." I complimented quietly.
"I'm proud of us." Blair replied as she stood on her tippy toes and pressed a kiss to my lips.
The moment was euphoric. Better than that, actually. That night was better than words. I believed that nothing else could go wrong for us, and things would finally settle down.
We remained on stage, locked in our embrace for a remaining few seconds.
"We have to get off!" Blair laughed as she pulled my hand behind her and ran off stage, rushing to our seat in the audience.
"Says who?" I called back to her with a wide smile.
"Pete." she laughed.
