"i cut myself." The words left his mouth in one breath, soft like a whisper, but loud enough for Sans to imagine them hitting the walls of the room, occupying all the space around them.
"You WHAT?"
Sans stiffened. Luckily for him, Grillby put a reashuring hand on his shoulder.
Papyrus sighed and hit his face with his hand, then pinched the bridge of his nose in an attempt to calm down. "Sorry, brother. I didn't mean to say it like that." Another sigh escaped Papyrus's mouth, and then silence.
Sans thought about how he could almost hear Papyrus's heart break.
"F-for how long did you...?" He didn't end the sentence, as if "cut" or "self harm" were incredibly rude swear words.
"since we moved to snowdin." Sans didn't want to say it like that. He didn't do it everyday since then.
A gasp escaped Papyrus's mouth. He covered it in surprise.
"bro, let me explain" Sans put his hands in front of himself, trying to calm his brother. "i didn't do it everyday or anything."
'yeah, right' he thought. 'like that sounded better.'Sans sighed. "i felt like a mistake, ok? I let Gaster get to me, even though he was already dead. I let the things he always said - that i'm not good for anything; i only waste time and resources - i let that get to me. i believed it. and... i felt like that's what i needed to do. to.. to punish myself."
Papyrus opened his mouth to say something. Sans put a hand in front of him. "brother, listen to me" his voice sounded exasperated. "i haven't done anything like that for a long time. i haven't done that since the kid came down in the undergorund."
Papyrus opened his mouth again, amd this time Sans let him snap at him. "What about the blood around the house, then? Is that Grillby's?"
Grillbys stiffened a giggle.
"no, paps, it's mine. but... ok, let's put it this way. i only did this twice since we have been on the surface."
Sans debated if he should tell him when, too. Well, the truth was out, it didn't matter.
"i did it once on friday, after an annoying talk with... jennifer? frisk's therapist. and another time last night."
He looked at Grillby again. "we had a bit of a fight."
Papyrus hit Grillby with a death glare. "it's not his fault. i was a bitch." Sans commented.
"Well, if I didnt..." Grillby started, but Sans shushed him.
"i'm not starting this conversation with you. not now and not never. we forget about it."Grillby mouthed a "fine."
He turned back to Papyrus. His eyes were watery and Sans could feel he was ready to start ugly crying.
"paps?"
And, there it goes. His brother hicupped and sighed, his bones rattled and his breaths were sharp, the air not enough for him.
Sans hugged him, whispering sweet things to him almost silently.
"I asked so many times, Sans. I asked if you were ok. Amd you told me you were fine."
Another wave of hiccups and sobs, Papyrus's body was shivering, tired out from the crying.
"You lied" He said in a sharp voice, while taking in more air. He breathed heavily, in a stupid attempt to calm down. Sans wanted to cry too, but he decided he wouldn't.
"i'm sorry, ok? i really thought i could handle it. i just didn't want my little bro to worry about me."
Papyrus looked him in the eyes. "i didn't want you to cry. and yet that's what you do." Sans swallowed the tears in his throat. "funny, huh?"
Papyrus hugged him harder. "I love you, Sans. Please don't blame yourself." He made a stupid attempt at whipping away his tears with his hand. "You are the best brother ever. And the greatest friend, and probably the best boyfriend."
He looked at Grillby, who had become really interested in the mattress.
"I know I can't convince you only with this dumb words, but, please understand you are more than you think. Really. Your mind doesn't let you see so so so many beautiful things at yourself."
Sans was smiling harder than ever. Papyrus finally calmed down from crying, and they hugged in silence for a few minutes.
"i love you, bro."
"I love you, too, Sans. And please remember that."
Papyrus was cupping Sans' cheek with one hand. Sans leaned in, craving the affection.
"let's get breakfast."
Papyrus agreed and the three got up to get to the kitchen. Sans caught a glimpse of the clock: 8 in the morning."hey, grillbz," he started as they walked down the stairs. "don't you have to get to the restaurant?"
Grillby shrugged. "I'll tell Jeremy to take care of it."
Sans guessed Jeremy was one of his employees. He had a lot of them now, working in shifts. He even planned to open another location in a town next to theirs.
"listen to me, grillby, in 3 years or something, people will go to grillby's as much as they go to starbucks. and you'll be bathing in money."
Grillby laughed it off. "It's what I like to do and it's not for money. But if that comes out of it... I'm not bothered."
Sans chuckled. They entered the kitchen and Papyrus got left over spaghetti from the fridge for all of them.
A/N: I know this chapter is short, standing at barely 900 words, but I preffer ending it here. I wanted to skip to the end of the week after this so it's better this chapters ends now.
