Sans hoped he would have some fun as the royal scientist. He really liked science and he was happy when he found even more books around the lab. He had a routine now, where he would pick some books from the lab, read them at home and bring them back. Or he would bring some of the books he had at home to read at the lab when there was nothing much to do around there.
He also met someone new; a lizard like monster named Alphys, a few years older than him. She was a lot of fun to be around, Sans thought. She even recomended some new books for him.
"S-so what d-do you r-r-ead for... for fun?" Alphys asked at some point, seeing Sans with the same Astronomy guide three days in a row.
Sans gestured to the book he had in hand. "this?"
"F-for fun?"
"yeah. it's interesting."
"S-so d-don't you... don't you read f-fantasy b-books or something?"
"no? i don't have any of those..."
So she lend him mangas and they would talk about them while they worked.
Asgore, probably helped by Gaster from all Sans knew, build another lab on top of the one he used to... live in. So him and Alphys worked there most of the time. But there came times when they would need something from... underneath. That's how they said it. Because the other lab was entirely underneath them.
Usually Sans would make Alphys go there. But now... Now the king was here.
He came for a checkup of the place or something. And he wanted both of them to go down with him and show him some stuff.
Alphys guided both monsters to the elevator, as if Sans didn't know where it was. As she pressed the button and the elevator doors opened, she invited both of them to step in.
The king did and Alphys looked at Sans, waiting. He shook his head like a scared animal, and Alphys gave him a ferm look. She might as well have said "Move your ass in or the King will snap both of us in half."
But Sans shook his head again and backed away from the elevator. By now, Asgore got a little worried.
"Is anything long, my dears?" he asked.
Alphys looked again at the skeleton as if she wanted to respond with. "No, nothing, Sans is just a prick."
But instead she told him he was scared of elevators.
The king went on and talked about how nothing there was that scary, and Sans had to obey and get in.The ride down felt like the longest ever. Sans thought if it would be weird that, once they were down there, he wouldn't want to leave the elevator.
To his surprise, as the door opened, Alphys grabed his hand and draged him along with her like he was five.Sans tried to set his hand free, getting more panicked with every step in that maze of a lab.
He didn't notice his eye flaming more and more with every step. He quickly looked around, expecting something to come out of nowhere and kill him.As they passed another room, all senses tense, Sans knew he couldn't hold it in anymore.
He stopped in his tracks and finally managed to pull his hand away from Aplhys, loudly crying "LET GO OF ME!"He held his hand as if it was broken.
He was mad, yet tears threatened to come out of his eye sockets. Then he felt it, as sudden as a kick in the stomach.
The fear...
The fear he had of that place and all it contained. The fear that somehow all of the things that already happened to him there will happen again.
He suddenly felt he was never going to be safe. He was never going to be able to live with that uncontrollable fear. With the trauma...He screamed without thinking. Sans screamed a lot of things. He cried for help, even though nothing was hurting him. He pleaded for mercy, however nothing was doing any harm to him.
All the while, Alphys and Asgore looked at him in shock, not knowing what to do, not knowing what caused that panic attack.
They exchanged worried glances and then Alphys moved closer to the skeleton. She put one hand on his shoulder, which immediately made him back away from her.
The King kept his distance. He knew he could be seen as a threat, knowing he is a rather large monster.
"S-sans?" Alphys spoke so quietly it was barely a whisper. "I- I'm not going to H-h-hurt you... okay?"
The skeleton didn't give any kind of response to what she said. He was curled up against one of the walls, waiting for the worst to happen.
"You, you a-are s-s-safe. I'm n-not going to h-hurt you." Aplhys tried moving closer and put her hand on Sans again. No response came. Not even a tired attempt at moving away.
So she tackled Sans into a hug, and held him tight. She whispered how everything is fine; nothing is going to hurt him; and that he is safe. Over and over and over again until he seemed to understand.
When his bones stopped rattling in fear, and he looked to be a lot calmer, Alphys immediately suggested to go back upstairs.
She gave Sans water and sat with him on the couch, waiting for him to say something. She would even believe one of his "i'm ok" lies.
But instead, after finnishing the cup of water, Sans got up and headed straight to the door. He got his jacket from the hanger next to the door, and looked back once at the other two monsters.
"i quit."
He said at last, exiting the lab and letting the door close behind him.Asgore and Alphys were left looking at each other again. Sure he didn't mean it, right?
A/N: this chapter kind of has two parts. I mean, the next chapter will just continue this one's idea, but i thought it would be cool to name them 'part 1' and 'part 2' since they are not really part of the main story, but more of a sub plot.
☆~this has 991 words, I'm surprised with myself.
