It was Sunday, and the couple had only a few boxes of stuff to sort out.
Sans opened one last box which lay on the livingroom floor. The things in it were mostly covered in dust. He really hadn't touched them in a long time, but he figured they would be safer in his new home than with Papyrus.
And he turned out to be right. The first thing he saw when he opened the box was a white container. Sans picked it up like it was a bomb and looked at it from all the angles before completely understanding what it was: his old happy pills.
Alphys gave them to him, on a day he would rather not remember. He took them like they were candy. They made everything in his body feel numb. His legs too, probably, because all the while he felt like he was walking on clouds.
They did their job, at least. He didn't quite want to kill himself since... that day. So why did he stop taking them?
Reset number 17. Ten genocides in a row. Sans didn't quite understand how they worked just yet. But he was tired. He had a lot of questions and barely enough answers.
Nobody else seemed to remember. So why did he? He almost convinced himself he was delirious. Or maybe it was just a fever dream. Either way, he was stuck in this repeating nightmare, with no way out. All his fears were coming true... again, and again, and again.
Reset number 17. Dark, darker, yet darker. The darkness in Sans' thoughts kept growing. The shadows of this living hell cutting deeper.
Papyrus was probably fighting the human, and loosing. So Sans locked himself in the bathroom and took out the antidepressants. How many was he allowed to take without them having bad consequences? Alphys told him but he didn't quite remember. Maybe three was too many, but he couldn't recall. Well, he couldn't go wrong with swallowing a handfull.
This next experiment would be very, very interesting...
He didn't even know if he took them with water or just swallowed them whole. Maybe they made his blood pressure go up or his brain explode. But they brought darkness and silence. And all Sans really wanted was that silence.
He looked at the white container again. The memories it brought back weren't exactly nice. He got up and walked to the batrhoom, then he threw all the pills in the toilet, flushing it immediately after.
He went back in the living room, where Grillby sat on the sofa ready to turn on the tv. Turns out he finnished unpacking, too.
Sans sat next to him, leaning onto his side. Grillby was about to say something when his phone rang. He got it out of his pocket, but, instead of answering, he looked at the screen for a few moments. His hand was shaking and Sans got a little scared seeing him like that.
"who is it, hun?" He asked.
"My... my mum." Grillby whispered, like the person on the other side of the line could hear him.He swiped at the screen and put the phone close to his ear.
"Hello?"Sans could hear the person on the other side, Grillby's mother, talking, but he couldn't make out what she was saying exactly. He only caught onto some words, but not enough to understand what was going on.
Grillby was nodding and humming in response from time to time. He was gulping rather loudly every so often and he was casually rubbing his eyes every few moments. Sans was watching him with concern. Ready to interfere at any moment. Even though he couldn't even see the person on the other side of the phone, he was ready to give her a bad time if she hurt his boyfriend in any way.
Grillby hadn't talked to his parents in years, afterall.
"Yeah... Yeah, mum, I'll call." A smile formed on Grillby's face as he said that, yet his eyes were still full of sorrow. "Yeah, I'll call." He gulped again. "We'll talk about it. Bye."
He hung up amd threw the phone on the coffee table, then let his head fall in his arms. He stood like that for some time, his emotions hovering between anger and excitement. He mumbled something under his breath.
"h-honey, what are you saying?" Sans asked, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm a coward." Came Grillby's muffled response.
Sans was taken aback a little. "don't... what makes you say that?"
Grillby looked at Sans. The skeleton tried his best to put on a convincing smile.
"My parents haven't called me in six years. SIX YEARS. Do you have any idea how much that is?"
Sans nodded. He knew Grillby for roughly six years.
"The last time I talked to them they only said bad things and ended up kicking me out. Kicking. Me. Out." He sighed. "And now my mom calls, telling me the family is meeting for whatever reason and she wanted to apologize?" He raised his voice at the last part of the sentence making it sound like a question.
Sans put one hand on Grillby's cheek, the fire monster leaning in and craving the affection.
"you know you don't have to go if you don't want to."Grillby sighed. "I know... It's just..." His voice became suddenly angrier. "All it took was one phone call and I'm already regretting being mad at them for six and a half years!"
Sans remained silent. But he still caressed the other's cheek.
"I love you." Grillby said, letting out a heavy breath and closing his eyes.
"i love you, too, grillbz." Sans planted a kiss on his forehead. "when is this family thing happening?"
"Next weekend." Grillby thought for a moment. "You know what?" He sounded more excited all of a sudden, which also made Sans excited. "We're going to that thing!"
"we?" The skeleton couldn't help but chuckle.
"Yeah. 'Cause the best idea I ever had was to take my hot ass boyfriend to meet my homophobic family!"
Grillby put his hands on his hips, reminding Sans of his brother. He looked really determined. In the evening, after they had dinner, Sans said he was going to take a shower. Grillby went in their bedroom and changed in pijamas, or more likely the one out of two shirts he wore to bed everynight and a pair of basketball shorts. He waited for Sans in the bed, who, as expected, took half an hour to finnish the shower.
Once he entered the bedroom, towel over his shoulders, Grillby gestured to him from the bed. "Come here!" He called.
"but i need to put on some clothes..." Sans tried to protest, but Grillby just repeated himself.
Sans still got dressed before hopping into bed.
He snuggled next to Grillby, gave him a peck on the mouth and then put his glasses away.
"and now what?" Sans asked, amused by his boyfriend.
"What do you mean? Now we sleep." Grillby hugged Sans while trying to get comfortable.
"so if we just sleep, why did you rush me like that?"
Grillby found a place for his head on Sans' shoulder. "I like how you smell after you shower."
Sans almost giggled, but he stopped himself. What he couldn't stop, though, was the blush painting his cheekbones a bright blue.
"good night, love."
"Mm, good night!"A/N: I have so many ideas but not enough ideas for the next chapter. Ugh. Anyway, this is only 1100 words, but I hope you enjoy anyway. See you, dears!
