Unexpected ➵ Hayes Grier

Chapter 4

Heleyna's POV

Me and Hayes walk into the classroom. He sits down at his seat while I go up to the teacher. She had brown eyes and black hair. She also had red lipstick on and a bright blue dress with black shoes. I hand her my schedule and she reads it carefully.

"Well, Heleyna, welcome to chemistry." She says with a big smile and I return it.

She looks around the room to find where I sit. Please be Nash or Hayes, please be Nash or Hayes, please be Nash or Hayes.

"You can sit next to Rita." She says pointing at a girl with brown eyes and black hair with a pink headband. Great now I have to deal with that awkward moment again.

I walk to her desk and sit down. She gets a good glance at me then turns facing the front. I turn to see who was sitting at the desk next to us and I see Hayes. YAY! Someone I can talk to.

"So what's your name?" Rita asks.

"Heleyna." I reply.

She nods her head and goes back to staring somewhere else. I look at the door and see the same girl I bumped into earlier walk in and sit down next to Hayes.

"Hey Maddie." Hayes says.

"Hey Hayes." She replies giving him a peck on the lips.

She gives me a dirty look so I turn away and see Nash, Cameron, Carter, and some other people come in.

"So,  I saw the way Maddie glared at you." Rita says turning towards me.

"So." I say back.

"Well it's bad." She states.

"Why?" I ask curiously.

"Because, she is one of the 'populars' and if anyone stands in her way she will get back at you. First, she will let you off with a warning,  then after that she will make your life hell. Do you know her boyfriend?" She asks.

"Ya he's kinda my new neighbor." I say.

"Well you better pray to god she doesn't see you two talking or hanging out." Rita says.

"How do you know all of this?" I ask.

"It happened to me before." She says sadly.

The rest of the day was boring. I just talked to Hayes and Nash, I also got to meet Cameron and Carter. They are really nice. For all of my other classes I either sit next to Hayes or Nash.

Finally, the bell rings and school is done for the day. I start heading up to my locker when all of a sudden I get slammed into my locker. I turn around to find Maddie and two other girls behind her.

"What was that for?" I ask rubbing my forehead.

"I know you and Hayes are neighbors." She says.

"So?" I ask confused.

"So, that's all you're going to stay as, neighbors, because if I see you talking to him, looking at him, or even standing next to him, you will regret it and that's not a threat, it's a promise." She says. Then she ends off punching me in the stomach. I fall to the ground.

"MADDIE WHAT THE HELL!!!" I hear someone yell. And with that Maddie walks off. I look up and see Cameron trying to help me up.

"Cameron stop, it hurts when I move, just leave me." I say wrapping my arms around my stomach.

"I'm not leaving you like this." He says helping me up.

"What happened?" Nash asks running up to me and Cameron.

"Maddie punched her in the stomach really hard." Cameron says.

"I knew Maddie was trouble. I have to talk to Hayes about this." He says trying to help me. After that we start heading home.

Random time skip

Nash drops me off at my house and goes to his. I open the door and see my most favorite person ever, my cousin Matt.

"MATT!" I scream tackling him to the ground. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"

"I am visiting North Carolina for a couple of weeks. You know, to help you guys get settled in." He says getting up and hugging me.

We go up to my room and catch up on stuff. "So how was your first day of school today?" He asks me.

"It was fine." I say trying not to bring up the whole Maddie thing. After we talk a bit more,  the door bell rings.

I go downstairs and open the door and find Hayes standing there with red puffy eyes, tear stains on his cheeks, and bruises starting to form on his arms and face.

"OMG, Hayes, what happened?!?"
