A rather tall junior walked down the high school halls, blocking out all sound with his headphones.
This teen is me.
A rather anti-social raven haired boy.
I stopped in front of my locker and put in the combination.
"27-46-2."
"If you keep saying it out loud everyone's gonna see your secrets."
That was Kai. My one and only friend.
"Then they're not gonna see much my dude."
My locker was filled with textbooks, art books, and a hook from which I retrieved my backpack.
"They'd see more in your locker."
He proceeded to open his locker and everything fell out.
"They don't even have to go through my locker. I'll just display it for them."
I closed my locker and turned to him.
"What do you want?"
"Do I always have to want something?" He pretended to act offended.
"No. You just always want something." I pointed out.
He breathed out a loud, long sigh.
"Your dad's out of town right?"
"Yes." I already knew what was about to happen.
"House party?" He bit his lip.
"Are you gonna get drunk this time?"
"Maybe? Why?"
I let out a sad laugh and looked at the floor.
"Because the last 3 times this happened, you promised to come over and help clean the mess that, your, friends made."
"And I did."
"No. You didn't."
"Really? Because my memory serves me a different story."
"Oh, the one where you found my dad's alcohol cabinet and fucked me over by drinking half the tequila?"
"How'd that fuck you over?"
"My dad thought that I got drunk and decided to trash the place all by myself. That's why I wasn't at school the next day, I was too busy cleaning the whole damn house."
A small blue figure walked past us to his locker, trying to avoid eye contact.
"Hey." Kai called out to him.
He froze.
"Jay, is it?"
"Uh. No?" He didn't want any part of this.
"Leave him out of this."
"No. We need someone else's opinion."
"We do not."
"This seems unhealthy. There that's my opinion. Can I go now?"
"No!" Kai shouted.
I looked behind him.
"Look Kai. Our good friend the principal is here."
"Oh yes. My good friends Cole and Kai."
"Let me guess. Detention for disturbing the peace here?"
"You got it. And Mr. Walker."
Kai and I both turned to look at Jay who was previously walking away, now frozen again.
