The Coal Miners Daughter

Data took Dezirae with him to a Cybernetics Conference and she could see those "wheels a turinin" as the saying goes once they returned to the Enterprise he once again became aloof and secretive hiding within the lab working on something no one knew about and it worried her not worried in a sense that he was once again pushing her away from him.... in a much larger way than usual.... but that whatever he was doing would quite possibly get him into trouble and have him lose his "job" within Starfleet everyone had asked her what he was doing and found out that even she had no idea and saw the worry it brought to her that he was being worse than usual when it came to not wanting to be with her which he has always wanted to do before when he was ready to show off whatever he was doing Dezirae waited by the lab door until he was ready to play show and tell she even made sure Wesley, Troi and Geordi didn't enter until she sensed he was satisfied with whatever he was hiding all three of them noticed how nervous she looked as they waited and they were curious as to why  "come on, Data, what is this?"  Geordi asks as soon as the four of them enter the room "yeah, Data what's going on?"  Wesley asks Data's eyes meet Dezirae as he says "I have invited you here to meet someone"  Data presses a few buttons on the console before him and a platform that is in the middle of the room lowers to reveal a Area 51 like alien looking creature standing in the center of it and everyone but Desiree stares at it in surprise "this is Lal"  Data says as he opens the small gate like doors of the platform then he introduces pointing his hand at Troi "Lal.... say hello to Counselor Deanna Troi"  the Alien looking android says with a soft feminine voice "hello Counselor Deanna Troi"  Deanna asks politely "how do you do, Lal?"  Lal replies  "I am functioning within normal parameters"  Data introduces once again pointing his hand out this time towards Geordi "Lal.... this is Geordi La Forge"  Lal asks looking at Data "purpose for exterior drapings, Father?"   Wesley mouths the word with a confused expression on his face "father?"  as Data explains to Lal "it is an accepted custom that we wear clothing"  Dezirae mutters jokingly under her breath "can you imagine this place as a nudist colony!?!"  Geordi chuckles softly as Wesley says  "Data, it called you Father"  Data replies "yes, Wesley Lal is my child"  then he introduces the other two people in the room leaving Dezirae for last Lal tilts her head curiously at Dezirae and Dezirae forces herself to kindly smile at the odd looking being before her a few minutes later Picard who had been informed of Data's.... experiment enters the room and gets introduced to Data's "child" "Lal has a positronic brain one very similar to my own I began programming it at the cybernetics conference"  Data explains "but nobody's ever been able to do that, Data, at least not since you were programmed"  Geordi says "true, but here was a new sub-micron matrix transfer technology introduced at the conference which I discovered could be used to lay down complex neural net pathways"  Data replies "so you did a transfer from your brain into Lal's"  Wesley says "exactly, Wesley I realized for the first time it was possible to continue Doctor Soong's work my initial transfers produced very encouraging results, so I brought Lal's brain back with me"  Data replies "Dezirae had no knowledge of what I was attempting to accomplish for I did not wish for her to get herself in trouble by helping me"  he adds while looking at Picard making sure Dezirae is not harmed in any way, shape or form much less kicked off the ship never able to return again "we know many have been bombarding her with questions about it since you started she has as always taken it with stride"  Picard replies Data looks at Dezirae with a worried expression on his face as Picard says softly being once again stuck inbetween the fascination of what stands before him and his duties as not only a Starfleet officer but a Captain "Data, I would like to have been consulted"  Data replies "I have not observed anyone else on board consulting you about their procreation, Captain"  Deanna asks "why didn't you give it a more human look, Data?"  Data replies "I decided to allow my child to choose its own sex and appearance"  ever since being introduced to her Lal has not taken her eyes off Dezirae who feared what was to come she feared being called "mother" for she knew that somehow Lal would pick up on how people see her (Dezirae) and Data or perhaps the fact that she has part of Data's brain programmed into her she may know.... to some extent.... the "differences" between Data when he's with her (Dezirae) vs how he is when he is with others "Commander Data, at your convenience, I would like to talk to you in my Ready Room Counselor"  Picard says before exiting the room Deanna looks at Data then Dezirae who nods at her then she leaves as well....
