Imperfect Lies

**** This chapter is based on  Season 4 Episode 11 Data's Day and  Episode 14 Clues ****

Data watched as O'Brien and Dezirae worked the Teleportation console together when he came to investigate what might have happened to the Ambassador Dezirae had made a good "deduction" when she said that she should be there since she was there helping O'Brien when the incident occurred he just about beamed with pride at the fact she worked the station quite proficiently and as he continued his investigation he found that Dezirae was indeed correct that the Ambassador was not the Ambassador nor was she dead as a matter of fact she is a Romulan known as Sub-Commander Selok.... Dezirae sat with Worf during Miles and Keiko's wedding in a gold/green dress "I feel overdressed!"  Desiree whispers through her teeth "you look beautiful!"  Worf replies in a low voice "since the days of the first wooden sailing ships, all Captains have enjoyed the happy privilege of joining together two people in the bonds of matrimony and so it is my honour to unite you, Keiko Ishikawa, and you, Miles Edward O'Brien, together in matrimony"  Picard says as he plays the part of the Master of Ceremonies then everyone stands up and walks over to the two O'Brien's to congratulate them then Data and Keiko do the "Father Daughter" dance "smile Data"  Data hears Dezirae whisper softly as she along with everyone else watches them dance and a real smile appears on his face and of course after they danced everyone else joined in then there was the cutting of the cake and everything else that happens during a wedding "see what happens when you just let things take their course instead of fretting over every single detail!?!"  Dezirae teases Keiko as they dance together Keiko chuckles shaking her head.... a month later Dezirae walks onto the Bridge to find everyone but Data knocked unconscious and there seemed to be a hidden sadness in his eyes but luckily for him everyone woke up so he went straight to work doing as he was told by the alien visitor he had that used Deanna's body to communicate Dezirae walked on to the Bridge and gently helped a confusingly unusual feeling Deanna as Data stood above Picard and says "Captain?"  Picard groans in effort as he starts to sit up "Data.... Dezirae"  Dezirae smirks and says perfectly imitating Madeline's (from Picard's PI holodeck program) accent "mornin Dix"  Picard softly chuckles "careful, Captain the stun effect from the wormhole was relatively severe"  Data says as he helps him stand Dezirae tilts her head curiously at him and the sadness in his eyes deepens as Picard replies "apparently so how long were we unconscious"  Data replies knowing full well Dezirae knew he was lying "approximately 30 seconds I have scanned the entire ship and detected no life-threatening injuries among the crew"  Picard asks "you two were not affected?"  Data replies "though I cannot speak for Dezirae on such matters my positronic system is immune to the effect this is the third unstable wormhole I have passed through during my time with Starfleet the first was aboard the USS Trieste...."  Picard interrupts "thank you, Mister Data well, where the hell are we?"  he walks towards his chair but doesn't sit down as Riker replies while looking at his console "point 5 4 parsecs from our original position almost a day's travel in just thirty seconds?"  Dezirae teases "perhaps the ship was in a really big hurry to get out of there!"  Riker chuckles softly as Data says "Sir, I should re-align the ship's clock with Starbase 4 10's subspace signal to adjust for the time distortion"  Picard replies "proceed"  Data say "yes, Captain"  then he sits in his stations chair as Beverly's voice is heard through the com "Captain, this is Crusher in Sickbay"  Picard replies "go ahead, Doctor"  Beverly asks through the com "I'm getting scattered reports of minor injuries what's happened?"  Picard replies "the Enterprise just jumped through a wormhole apparently we were all unconscious for about thirty seconds"  Beverly asks "is everybody all right there?"  Picard replies "there's little or no damage on the Bridge, Doctor"  Beverly says "acknowledged Crusher out"  Picard and Riker sit down in their chairs and Picard asks "ship's status?"  Riker replies "reports coming in now nothing serious so far"  they hear Geordi's voice come through the com "La Forge here, Captain I've checked Impulse Engines and Warp Drives, sir they appear to be unaffected"  Worf reports "Shields and weapons systems are fully functional"  Picard looks over at Troi who was having her temples gently massaged by Desiree and asks "counselor? are you all right?"  Deanna replies with a smile as Dezirae lowers her hands and stands up off the arm of Deanna's chair then walks away "a little I'm feeling a bit unfocused it'll pass"  Picard says "well, not too bad, all things considered"  Riker replies "we're lucky we didn't end up half way across the galaxy in the middle of next week"  Data turn in his seat and says "that was never actually a possibility the wormhole's small size and relatively short period would make this a local phenomenon"  Picard says "there's still the anomalous M-class planet we were going to investigate do we go back"  Data replies "the unpredictability of the wormhole would make an investigation a hazardous one a probe launched from our current position would be more advisable"  Picard orders "make it so"  Data looks over at a sad looking Dezirae then goes to work creating yet another lie as Dezirae walks off the Bridge....
