"So what was that all about?" I ask Dominic after I finish telling him the story. The people at the party were slowly beginning to dwindle as the night aged. The party was honestly whack, but Pyper made it better. Even though I had pestered her about it the entire time I was glad she came.
He sighs. "Alaxandar, Pyper's brother, volunteered to go overseas to fight in Iraq."
He rubs his face hesitating, before continuing. "She wasn't happy but she dealt with it. She wrote letters and he wrote back."
He breaths, clearly wanting to take his time explaining. "But then last year Mrs. Timms got a letter saying that Alax was lost. There was no way of finding him and that he could possibly be a prisoner of war or most likely dead."
He stops lettting me process all of the information, and my eyes enlarge. What the heck? That's has to be hard.
"Pyper thinks its her fault that he's gone. She thinks she could've stopped him, told him don't go.''
"We tell her it's not. But she's too stubborn to listen." His voice drops as he shakes his head..
I sit there dumbfounded. " I never knew-" I start to say but before I could finish Dominic interrupts me.
"Nobody knows. She doesn't want it to be known." He says sternly.
The guy who carried Pyper out, walks towards us."She's knocked out. We should take her home." He states his hazel eyes glaring at me.
What's his problem?
Dominic fixes me with a look, before turning to the glaring guy and noding in agreement.
"Leyah and Jaki just left out." He states as he examines me.
"I'm sure you know when to not say something." Dominic says his voice even.
"Yeah, I do." I utter, barely paying attention to him. My mind elsewhere, on Pyper.
I couldn't get over the fact that I had been treating her like crap, being an @$$ and everything. When what she really needed was compassion. I didn't know her situation and yet previously I hadn't cared. I was getting the feeling that I was going to start.
