Taraj P Henson as Leona Timms

"Make a left." I say, while pointing through the window. Shayne turns in that direction.

When we finally make it to my house I quickly get out his car, trying to hurry up.

"Thanks for the ride Shayne!" I yell while running to my door. I make it to the entry to my house and fix my appearance before pushing it open.

I glance around the house, looking for any signs of my mother. The halls are dark the only comes from the living room and I silently jump in relief.

"I made it." I whisper as I dance a little by the door. As i shimmy towards the stairs my mother is standing at the kitchen with a questioning look on her face.

My shoulders slump, I didn't make it.

"Ma I'm so sorry. I was walking and-" I mutter trying to explain myself.

"Who dropped you off?" She asked, interrupting me. Her gold hair was slicked into a high puff, her curls on  display as she stares at me.

"He was a nobody Ma it's fine-" I interject trying to get out of this.

"You know the rules." She states plainly, as she moves the pot off the stove.

"But ma-" I argue, and she fixes me with a deadly look. I trudge out the door and towards Shayne's car. He was still there, even though I prayed he wouldn't be.

I loved when my Mother made whoever we were with stay for dinner. But Shayne Green? If I found him to be annoying, and my siblings are already annoying that dinner would be terrible.

"My mom wants to know if you'll stay for dinner." I state, dully. She made me ask, she didn't say to do it nicely.

"Sure." He says, glancing at me. His smile was warm as I scoffed, walking back to my home.

I walk in the door, Shayne trailing behind me. As I enter I see my siblings and mother lined up ready to say their practiced greetings.

"Everyone this is Shayne. Shayne this is everyone." I proclaimed while gesturing back and forth.

"Hey, nice to meet you guys." He warmly pronounced. His hair now placed in a low bun. A stray piece of hair looked at me, and I had the urge to push it back. I didn't.

"Hi." They say in unison. Their voices reaching my ears reminds me that one is missing. Will always be missing. I cast my eyes downward lost in memories.

One by one they approach Shayne and I am snapped out of my thoughts as my sister speaks.

"I'm Celine." My sixteen year old sister says. Her dark curls fell behind her shoulders as her coffee colored eyes looked over Shayne. She was probably checking him out, so she could gossip later.
