Areum's POV

There. I woke up again drenched in sweat and gasping for air. As the panic slowly subsided, I took comfort knowing that I was still in my warm, cozy bed, wrapped around in my familiar quilt. I don't know what it is about blankets but they always seem to make me feel...safe.

Sighing deeply I closed my eyes and massaged my temples. How were my dreams getting even more horrible and terrifying day by day? It's like my own mind is playing games with me. Each dream is different every night, yet in the end I always get the same cold, empty feeling whenever I wake up. I have been seeing these dreams for few months now. But they are just nightmares right? It's not like I'm into any sort of voodoo or horoscopes. But then why are they affecting me so much? I would've contemplated about it further, but my alarm started ringing. I reluctantly got out of bed heading towards the bathroom to wash up.

I looked at myself in the mirror. My hair was a total mess, eyes swollen and red. And, oh my gosh, I stank. I quickly washed my face, brushed my teeth and got into the shower.

I came out after a bit and chose myself a cute outfit. I rushed downstairs to see my mom preparing my breakfast while my dad was watching the news, as usual.

"Areum-ah, here you go." my mom said while handing me a plate of sandwiches and a cup of coffee.

I drank the coffee as fast as I could and grabbed the sandwiches.

"I'm running really late. I'll have these on my way, okay?" I told her.

She clicked her tongue in annoyance before giving me a nod.

"Bye, have a great day sweetie!" my dad said, without leaving his eyes off the screen.

Blowing my parents a kiss, I dashed out of the door.

After a long walk I finally reached school. And as always, spotted Hyejin, my best friend, waiting for me at the entrance.

"Yo what's up?" she said while pulling me in a tight embrace.

"I c-cant breathe."I mumbled and she chuckled.

She let go off me and started talking about how she hadn't done her homework and how she was 100% sure she was going to get punished. We were talking about random things but she abruptly stopped talking and let out a hilarious shriek. And that was because her older brother, Seokjin, or Jin, had pulled her hair from behind.

"Yah Oppa! Take your filthy hands off of my hair or else I will shave your head and shove those hair up your ass."

If only I had popcorn, they were such an entertainment.

"You better learn to respect elders, you stupid little adopted fellow" Jin threatened his sister and I was just watching their cute bickering.

And I was used to it. The three of us grew together and this was like their everyday talk. They stopped arguing realizing that I was still there.

"Hi there buddy!" Jin greeted while giving me a high five.

"Now let's go to class, shall we?" Hyejin asked as she dragged me towards the classroom.

Yes, Hyejin and I were in the same class. We both were bench partners as well. We sat at our places, waiting for the teacher to start.
But these days, I zoned out a lot during classes. I couldn't help it. Don't get me wrong, I'm a really good student who pays attention in class and answers all the questions most of the times. But for some reason I kept looking out of the window and got lost in thought. And the time magically flew.
