•••"Did you miss me?" Jack called, placing his keys onto the hook by the door and shrugging out of his jacket. He smiled as he heard shuffling coming from the office at the end of the hall, followed by Davey's head popping out around the door, light spilling onto the floor.
"Barely thought about you actually,"
Jack frowned and pouted.
Davey laughed and emerged from the office to meet his husband, pulling him towards him and bending down slightly to plant a kiss on his nose. "Yes, I missed you,"
"Good," Jack smiled and pressed a kiss to Davey's lips. "So, what have you been doing all day without me. It must be so boring all alone,"
Davey shook his head. "Not really. I started working on-,"
Jack placed a finger over Davey's lips, cutting him off, "Babe, you know I don't understand a word you say when you talk about your work. It's all nonsense to me. And anyway, didn't I distinctly tell you to take a break today? It's your one day off this week,"
"Well, yes but- you know what never mind. If I keep taking you'll never let me hear the end of it,"
"True," Jack called over his shoulder as he walked into the kitchen. He leaned against the counter and smiled as his husband followed behind him.
"So, since I've been working so hard all day, could I count on you to make dinner...?" Davey asked, concealing a smile behind a cabinet door as he examined the contents.
"What! No way! You chose to work. I had no choice! I was forced to that dreaded place against my will!"
"Hun," Davey said without looking around, "you work at an animal shelter and I know you love it,"
Jack pouted. "That is not the point,"
Davey smiled and closed the cabinet. "Well then, what is the point?"
"The point is, I don't want to make dinner," Jack came up behind Davey, wrapping his arms around his waist and leaning his forehead against his shoulder blade.
"Hmm, that is an issue,"
"So...pizza?"
Davey laughed and spun around in Jack's arms, resting their foreheads together. "You're hopeless,"
Jack hummed in response. "Yes and I want pizza,"
"Fine. I'll order a pizza. And you-," Davey made a face of disgust and pushed Jack away from him gently, "-go shower. You smell like dog,"
Jack grinned. "Yay! Pizza!"
Davey laughed. "Yes, pizza. And you, shower,"
"Alright alright, I'm going,"
•••
Jack smiled to himself and brushed the hair from Davey's forehead as the man slept again his chest. He should probably wake him so they can clean up the empty pizza boxes and glasses scattering the table in front of them, but he didn't want to.
He wanted to stay here, in the soft glow of a lamp, curled up on the sofa with Davey asleep against him, his mouth slightly open and his breathing soft and steady.
His Davey.
His soulmate.
He was sure he was his soulmate. There was no doubt in his mind about it. There was no actual definitive way to prove who ones soulmate was, but that didn't sway him.
