Captain Interruptus blurted out to the cabin that they had roughly thirty minutes left before they were to land. He instructed the flight attendants to begin preparations for landing.
The thought of never seeing Sara again left Zak's stomach in knots. "Have dinner with me?" Zak stammered out. Could you sound any more desperate, man? Seriously? What the hell are you thinking?
Sara looked at Zak, a little surprised. "I'm not sure that I'm up for being out and about this evening. I was hoping to just relax and chill out before the girls arrive tomorrow, but thank you for the invite. I've got to use the restroom, excuse me."
She took her place behind one other person in line. A somewhat "skeezy" looking man made his way into the line behind her and without warning, he brazenly grabbed Sara's ass.
Sara whipped around and quickly kneed the guy in his balls, hard. "What the fuck do you think you're doing? Keep your fucking hands to yourself –"
Zak jumped from his seat and grabbed the man by his collar, lifting him up off of his feet. "Keep your fucking hands off of her –"
But the skeezy man spewed at Sara, "You fucking bitch!"
Zak swung and hit the man squarely in the jaw, sending him to the floor. Zak was about to kick him when Sara got between them.
As luck would have it, an air marshal was on board and intervened. He picked up the man and zip-cuffed him before dragging him to the back of the plane.
"Zak, stop! Let the marshal handle him."
"Fuck that guy! He needs the shit beat out of him!"
"I agree with you, but please, let the law handle this one. There are kids on this flight and I don't want them scared. Please," Sara beseeched him.
Sara put her hand on Zak's chest, and all of the tension drained from his body. He instantly felt a sense of calm come over him. He knew this was odd, too – whenever he saw red the way he just had, it took a long time for him to come back down. But not this time.
She took ahold of Zak's hand and led them back to their seats. "Let's get some ice for your hand." Sara called the flight attendant over.
Zak looked at his hand. He hadn't realized his knuckles were split open, but now, he could feel the swelling coming on. The flight attendant handed Sara a bag of ice. Sara moved over to the seat next to Zak and held the ice on his hand.
The air marshal returned and said, "I'll need to speak with the both of you when we land, just to get your side of the story. I'll gather up statements from others closer to the incident as well."
Sara and Zak nodded their heads.
"Are you all right?" Zak asked.
"I'm a little shaken, but otherwise okay," Sara said.
"I thought you needed to use the restroom?"
"Not anymore. I guess that's what an adrenaline rush will do for you," Sara replied.
