"Hey, Sara?" Zak began.
"Hey, Zak!" she quipped as she was lying on his sofa, reading a book – another Stephen King novel, "Nightmares & Dreamscapes". She took note of her position on the page and looked up.
"I was hoping to come with you to the doctor in Los Angeles, the one Doctor Brooks is referring you to. Would that be all right?"
Sara was surprised. "Don't you have work?" Her last doctor appointment was now only seven days away, and then she would be heading home.
"Nothing I can't handle online. I was thinking I could drive you back, maybe stay in L.A. for a little bit?" The thought of not being with Sara didn't sit right with him. It had been nearly three weeks since they first met, and in all that time, they hadn't spent a night apart.
"Sure. Do you want to bring Gracie along?"
He found himself smiling at that. "You wouldn't mind if I brought Gracie?"
She grinned at him. "Why would I mind? I love dogs! I have five, remember?"
He sat down next to her. "Do you think you're up to go out for a little bit?"
"Yeah. What do you have in mind?" her curiosity piqued.
"I volunteer at the Nevada SPCA -"
"Cool!" Sara interrupted him as she stood up, not heeding any pain she might feel with such an abrupt motion. "When do we leave?"
He flashed his pearly whites. "Right now, I guess."
