My whole body started to shake, I could hardly  breathe. It was a good thing that from where I was standing, my dad couldn't see me. Henry's face fell, he knew what would happen if my dad caught me, here of all places. He spoke up,

"I'm sorry, but no, I have not seen your son. I hope you find him though."

I heard a long pause and Henry shifted uncomfortably. I heard my dad speak again,

"Okay, thank you for your time."

After a few minutes, I tried to get up. Sally saw me struggle and walked over to me. He pushed me back down.

"Hun, please don't strain yourself, you'll make yourself more hurt than you already are."

I looked up at him,

"Sal, I have to go. My dad is looking for me, and I'm going to be in worse trouble if I'm caught outside of my house. Please just let go before it gets any worse."

Sally let go and helped me off of the couch.

"I could walk you home if you want you know."

I gave him a reassuring smile.

"No, I'll be okay. I promise. I don't want you to get in trouble."

I said my goodbyes to everyone. They actually looked sad to see me go. I didn't feel the best about the whole situation anyway, I knew the coming out party wasn't for me. It was definately for Sally, saying the Henry had a feeling Sal was gay the whole time and got the decorations just in case he was right. I slowly walk my way out of the Addison Apartments and headed home.

When I got to my house after hobbling for quite a while, I don't think my dad is there. There's no signs of him in any of the windows, and I don't hear anything from inside.

I walked up to the front door, and to my surprise, the front door is unlocked. I slowly open it, to prevent as much noise as possible, but it still creaked open a little bit.

I stepped inside, and looked around. There was no sign of him anywhere. I walked into the kitchen and opened the freezer to get ice for my ankle. I closed the door and turned around. My dad was right behind me and he didn't look too happy with me. His presence make me jump in fear and in surprise. He pinned me against the door and almost spat in my face.

"Where were you?!"

I flinched looked away.

"I-I went for a walk! I didn't think y-you'd notice! I'm s-sorry!"

He punched me hard in the side of my face.

"Liar! Where were you?! And look at me when I speak to you!"

I tried my best to look at him,

"I'm not lying to you! I promise! I was out for a walk around the town and hurt my ankle, so it took me a while to get back! I promise!"

I technically wasn't lying, I've been all over this town today. He punched me in the face again, in the same spot.

"Were you with anybody?! You know how angry that makes me. Especially if it was a boy. I didn't raise a f*g."

I started to tear up,

"No, there was no one with me!"

He punched me in the eye before letting me go and I ran upstairs before he could do anymore damage.

I can't live in this house anymore.

I started packing my things little by little a month back. I only packed a few things at a time so he wouldn't notice. I packed a few more things and wrapped the ice around my ankle with a towel. I didn't care what time it was, I went straight to bed. I didn't even look at how bad my face was, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I cried myself to sleep.

I woke up with the whole left side of my face in extreme pain. The ice on my ankle melted but that was expected. Good thing the towel I used was very thick so it caught the water.

It's Sunday, so my dad is at church. I wonder why he didn't make me go this time. Probably because he's ashamed of me.

I felt horrible, I got up and took a much needed shower. When I got out, I looked at the left side of my face. I have a black eye again and it was swollen shut, I have a fat lip, and the whole side of my face was swollen and a dark shade of purple.

At least my ankle was feeling better. I went to my room and got dressed. After my hair dried, I got my phone and asked Sal if I could come over. He said of course and I said I'd be over soon.

I didn't want people on the streets to see my face, so I put on a purple hooded jacket, it looks just like my purple shirt.

I went downstairs to the kitchen to get more ice. Even though I knew he wasn't here, I kept glancing behind me every few seconds. I put the ice to my face and put my hood up.

I left the house and started walking down the street rather quickly. I tried to not draw any attention to me. Not many people were on the street because most people were in church.

Before I knew it, I was at the Addison Apartments. I went inside and into the elevator. I hit his floor, and once I got up there, I  went to his apartment and knocked on the door. After a few seconds, Sal opened the door and the smile on his face dropped immediately when he saw my face.

"Oh my god! What happened to you?!"

He pulled me inside before I could even answer. Henry came rushing over to see the damage. I took the ice off my face so I could talk properly.

"My dad, that's what happened."

Henry put his hand on my shoulder, and the pulled me in for a hug. Over the past few months, Henry has been more of a father to me than my dad ever has in my entire life.

"I'm so sorry, Travis. You deserve better."
