"It could be a different Harold Jenkins you know. There are probably dozens in the city." Diego muttered, trying to console her.
"I don't think it could be a coincidence. That man never seemed right to me, even if I never saw his face. Of course, he wasn't right in the head or else he wouldn't be in prison. But it was something else. Something darker."
"You wouldn't have happened to read his mind during his sessions would you?" Klaus muttered, fingers pushed to his forehead.
She scrunched together her eyebrows at his comment. "That would be completely unethical. Besides, I hadn't used my powers since I left, the first time I had was when I... well, read Five's mind. Sorry about that by the way." The boy shrugged, not seeming to mind the privacy invasion.
"I'm sorry, am I the only one whos sceptical here? I mean, how exactly do you know all this about what's-his-name?" Allison raised one of her hands. She was always the reasonable one of the group.
"All of this is pretty crazy. But I have faith in Five." She stood and walked over, standing beside him. He nodded in appreciation.
"You know those lunatics in masks that attacked the house?" he muttered.
Klaus laughed, throwing his legs up onto the couch where Leta had been sitting. "Oh yeah, I think we remember them."
"Yeah, the ones who attacked us while you were getting high." Diego spat at his brother. Klaus just let it roll from his shoulders.
"Actually he was removing his garbage stink, as per my request. Besides, I was captured too. Or did you forget." Leta tilted down her nose, glancing at the man. Now was not the time for bickering, but even if it was, she wouldn't be on his side.
"Yes. Them." Five muttered, shooting Diego an equally withering gaze. "They were sent by the Commission to stop me from traveling back and preventing the end of the earth."Allison folded her arms across her chest, giving Five a look that would make a sane person feel out of their mind. "The what?"
"My former employer," He explained, as if he had said it a thousand times. "They monitor all of time and space to make sure that whatever's supposed to happen, happens. They believe the apocalypse is supposed to happen in three days, so I went to Commission headquarters and intercepted a message meant for those same lunatics. Protect Harold Jenkins. So, he must be responsible for the apocalypse." Leta ran a hand down the side of her jeans.
"So that would be where you went in the time warp thing?" she muttered. He nodded slowly, remembering the strange occurrence.
"I'm sorry. Time warp?" Allison again seemed to find herself out of the loop.
Leta waved her hand at the woman, "I'll tell you later."
"Whatever, this is all insane!" she shouted, Luther and Diego beginning to call wild questions at Five.
"Hey, hey! You know what else is insane?" Five shouted, getting the flustered adults to regain some sort of composure. "I look like a fifteen year old, Leta can read minds, Klaus can talk to the dead, and Luther thinks he's fooling everyone with that overcoat." Luther shifted uncomfortably at the comment, everyone else just silently agreeing. "Everything about us is insane. From the day we were born to the day we were supposed to die. It always has been. And as far as I can tell, we can do just about anything."
"He's got a point there." Klaus muttered, his voice dry.
"We didn't choose this life, we're just living it. For the next three days at least." Five stated. His voice was strong, not a single wave in his confidence. Leta was glad someone felt that way.
Allison had had about enough. She had things she needed to do, people to see, especially if they only had three days left to live. "But the last time we tried to stop it we all died," Allison reminded the group, "Why would it be any different this time?" Leta could feel the sadness radiating off of her skin. She wanted the possibility of saving the world to be true, but in her eyes, the only world she wanted to protect was her own. Her daughter.
Five locked eyes with his sister, looking her dead on. "Because now I'm here. We have the name of the man responsible.
"Guys-" she tried again.
Five continued, "We actually have the chance to save billions of people." his gaze shifted, becoming a bit softer. "Including Claire."
Allison's eyes widened in surprise, "You know her name?"
Five let on a small reluctant grin, "I do, and I would like to live long enough to meet her."
Allison bounced her shoulders, looking around at the people gathered around her. "Then lets get this bastard."
Diego devilishly grinned, "You had me at Gerald Jenkins."
"Harold Jenkins hon." Leta corrected, pushing up her glasses. He waved her off with his uninjured arm.
"Whatever, I already lost two people this week. I don't plan on losing anyone else."
"As I told you before Five, I've got your back." Leta let on a cheesy grin at the younger boy.
Five redirected his attention to Luther, but he seemed now to be lost in thought. "Luther?"
The large man nodded, holding up a hand to his brother. "Yeah... you go on without me, I'm going to stay behind and look through Dad's files. I still think this has something to do with the moon."
"Seriously?" Diego scoffed, side eyeing his brother. "You're still on about that? You want to make the end of the world about Dad after all of this?"
"Watch for threats, that's what he told me. That can't have been a coincidence."
Leta crossed her arms and glanced at him. Even with all he had put her through, she wanted to believe him, for his sake. After all, she had been sent away too.
"No." Allison called his attention and placed a hand on his shoulder, "We need to stick together."
Five pushed himself off of the stool onto unsteady feet and walked over to the door. "We don't have time for this, Luther, do what you want. Everyone else, let's go." Allison followed after him, Diego next. Leta stood to follow the others, but noticed Klaus laying on the end of the couch, sweat dotting his brow.
"Are you okay?" She whispered to him. They were alone now, Luther had left up the stairs to look for research.
His eyes stared blankly up at the ceiling. "My skin is on fire." he muttered, no humor in his words. She sat next to him, running a finger up the side of his face. A half smile was all she could manage to pull as she looked at him.
"You're doing great." Leta leaned down and placed a kiss softly on his forehead. He closed his eyes and let the moment envelop him. "I love you."
He smiled, holding her head in his hands. "Be safe. No getting murdered okay?" She chuckled at his small joke, grabbing his wrist with her hand and holding it tight.
"No promises." She backed away, letting his hand drop back down onto his stomach. "Stay strong. I'll be back soon." He simply nodded, gesturing for her to go.
"Lee? Come on, we've got to go." she turned to Diego's voice from down the hall, pursing her lips in the process.
With one last look she turned and retreated into the hall, walking out the front door and slipping into the car next to Allison. "Got time to talk now?" the woman asked with a cheeky grin plastered to her cheeks. Leta nodded, settling back into the seat for the ride.
"Depends, you have time to listen?"
