The holiday passes in a blur, and soon the boys are back at school. It starts well - everyone still gets on and they keep in touch outside of school - but then Korn... well he has words with Bright about a subject, which Win knows is about him.

"Bright, tell me!"

"I can't, Win."

"I'm your best friend. Just fucking tell me!"

"Language," Bright scolds jokingly.

"Piss off, you swear all the time!"

"There you go again. Maybe we should get a swear jar."

"But what... Stop changing the bloody subject!"

"Fine, fine." There is a moment of silence as Bright tries to be serious. "Korn was just saying that... saying that..."

"Go on," Win urges.

"He said that he doesn't want to," he hesitates, "hang-out-with-the-two-little-kids."

Even though Bright speaks those last words at a pace of about seven words per second, Win understands every syllable.

"Meaning me and Saint, right?" Win snaps, even though he knows the answer.

"Yes, but-"

"Well great Bright. That's absolutely fantastic. I think I should go and tell Saint that we are no longer wanted." Win spins around towards the door of Bright's bedroom.

"Winnie" Bright follows and grabs Win's sleeve when it is in reach. "I said no."

"No what?"

"No to that. I said that you are my best friend and just because he doesn't like you doesn't mean I should stop spending time with you. He didn't like that, of course, and went off in a huff. He was being a dick - and you're being a dick just by thinking I would just stop liking you because Korn doesn't."

There's a tense moment of silence as Win takes in Bright's words. He tosses them over in his mind for about a minute before stepping towards his friend.

Bright holds his arms out, and Win stumbles into them, resting his head on Bright's shoulder.

"I'm sorry," he mumbles.

"For what?"

"Being a dick."

Bright turns his head slightly, and places a kiss on Win's temple. He notices Win's sharp intake of breath, but pretends he doesn't. Bright doesn't have to say anything; Win knows that it's a way – it is a new way - of saying everything's alright.

From there, everything is even better than before. Tay and New apologize to Saint and Win for Korn's ridiculous behavior - even though they didn't need to, which is what Win and Saint tell them. Even though it is said that groups of odd numbers are at a higher risk of falling out, the five of them get on like a house on fire.

It used to be that Korn and Win would compete for Bright's attention, and when Korn won, Win would always turn to Saint. Otherwise, Saint got on incredibly well with New and Tay (or 'TayNew', as he called them. He told Win how he was convinced they'd make a good couple).

Now, it is always Win and Bright and New and Tay, and Saint really doesn't mind flitting between the two. He also has his eyes set on a girl from his physics class, who he sometimes invites to eat with them at lunch.

He doesn't mind not seeing as much of Win during these times - they often have classes together, and they still meet up outside of school.

One lunchtime, near the end of the school year, Tay and New tell their friends that they have some news. In confusion, the other boys follow them away from the normal path to the computer room, to the benches on the opposite side of the courtyard.

"Well, uh, this is kinda big news, I suppose," New starts.

"We have decided to tell you today, because we thought you deserved to know," Tay continues, turning to New. Win can see the slight begging in his eyes.

"Tay and I are..." New pauses, and on a whim, takes Tay's hand in his, entangling their fingers. "Tay and I are together. In a relationship."

There's an extremely brief silence before all three boys jump up from their seats opposite, all exclaiming different things.

"When? How? Who came on to who?"

"Guys I'm so happy for you!"

However, Saint is louder than everyone else.

"I knew it! Didn't I tell you? This is fantastic, I can predict the future!"

Tay and New exchange looks of relief at their friends' acceptance, followed by amusement at Saint's outburst.

"Actually, you guys have given me the confidence I need! See you later; I need to go and speak to someone!"

Saint then scurries away, and his friends watch him before talking again.

"Anyway, guys! Answer my questions!"

"Well, Tay totally came onto me-"

"I did not!"

As the others chat and laugh, Win begins to feel something in his stomach. As it becomes more developed, he realizes that it is the same feeling that he had when Bright told him about his new girlfriend.

Win now knows that this previously unknown emotion is jealousy. Jealousy at New and Tay, being able to be happy together in a relationship where they can hug and kiss and hold hands and...

Win wants that with Bright.

He feels jealous towards Saint, how he is now off asking a girl to go out with him. Asking a girl to be in a relationship where they can hug and kiss and hold hands and...

Win wants that with Bright.

He feels jealous towards Mina, who had the opportunity in her life to be in a relationship with Bright where she can hug him and kiss him and hold hands with him and...

Win wants it all.

He doesn't think he's asking for a lot, really.
