Hogwarts. Hermione thought to herself about how beautiful it was as she saw it appear in front of her. The pictures in her books didn't do it any justice. She walked through the huge doors in a cloud of first-years. Everyone was awing at the amazing architecture of the building. They walked up a grand staircase and stopped at the top. All of the children were bustling with excitement.
"Wait here," said a huge-looking man. He had so much hair, you could barely make out his face. The only things you could see in his bushel of hair were two kind glistening eyes. He turned and walked-- no-- pounded away. All of the first-years resumed mingling with each other. Hermione wanted to talk to Draco. She looked for his blonde hair in the crowd and she spotted it right behind her. Draco was standing there, this time, not flanked by the mean boys on the train.
"H-Hello," Hermione said. She couldn't help but stare straight into his gray eyes.
"Hi," Draco replied.
She told herself to calm down and she took a deep breath. "Hermione Granger," she stuck out her hand. Draco took it. His hand was warm. It was comfortable. The butterflies were running wild in her stomach.
"Draco Malfoy," he said.
"That's a splendid name, Draco Malfoy." She didn't want to let go. It seemed as if he didn't want to let go either. Hermione finally broke the handshake. "Um, what house do you want to get?"
"Slytherin. Everyone in my family's been a Slytherin."
"Is that what you really want? Or do you just think you want it because of your family?"
"Well, I guess not," he furrowed his brows. "I guess Ravenclaw would be kind of cool."
"I think so, too."
"Really?"
"Perhaps we'll be in the same house, then," Hermione smiled.
"Fat chance. With my whole bloodline being in Slytherin, that's what I'll probably get." Hermione said nothing for a minute and stared at her shoes. She looked back up when Draco said, "Hermione?"
"Yes?"
"I hate to break it to you, but I think you may be a Gryffindor," Draco gave a small smile.
"Gryffindor? The house for the brave and chivalrous?"
"I didn't say anything on the train, but going around to every person, trying to help that round boy find his toad? That seems pretty brave and chivalrous to me."
"How are we supposed to be friends if you get Slytherin and I get Gryffindor?"
"Don't worry, we'll figure it out."
"Well... I'll see you around, Draco?"
"Yeah."
Hermione walked back into the crowd, trying to hide the fact that she was majorly blushing. About three minutes later, a woman in a long green robe and black witch's hat spoke up, "Welcome to Hogwarts," the woman said. "Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Now, while you are here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you house points. Any rule breaking, and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup." Suddenly, Neville jumped forward and picked up a dark green toad.
"Trevor!" Neville exclaimed in the silent and echoey room. All of the students turned to stare at him. The witch stared at him as well with a daunting look. "Sorry." Neville backed up into the crowd.
