Hermione's Hogwarts letter had finally arrived.

Dear Ms. Hermione Granger,

We are pleased to announce that you will be welcomed back for a fifth term at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Fifth-year students shall require:

- All necessities from past terms

- The Standard Books of Spells, Grade 5 by Miranda Goshawk

- Defensive Magical Theory by Wilbert Slinkhard

Eight fifth-year students will be chosen as Head Boy and Head Girl for each of the houses. See the letter attached.

We hope you will join us back for another year at Hogwarts.

Sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall

Stapled to Hermione's letter was a prefect list for the four houses. She read it from top to bottom.

Hufflepuff House

Head Boy: Ernie MacMillan

Head Girl: Hannah Abbott

Ravenclaw House:

Head Boy: Michael Corner

Head Girl: Cho Chang

Slytherin House:

Head Boy: Draco Malfoy

Head Girl: Pansy Parkinson

Gryffindor House:

Head Boy: Ronald Weasley

Head Girl: Hermione Granger

Inside her letter was a shining prefect badge. "Merlin's beard!" Hermione said out loud.

"What?" Ron asked.

"I'm Head Girl!" Hermione said.

"How do you know?" Ron asked.

"Look at the separate page attached to your letter." Ron set his letter aside and pulled the prefect sheet out of the envelope.

"I-I'm Head Boy," he said, astonished.

"We have to tell Harry!" She grabbed Harry's letter off of the table and they ran upstairs. Hermione and Ron burst into Harry's room to see Harry and Sirius sitting on the bed. "Harry, Ron and I, we've been named House Prefects!" Hermione handed Harry his letter. Harry tore open his letter and when he read the letter attached his face dropped. He tore up the nice parchment and let the shreds fall to the floor. "What are you on about, Harry?" Harry shook his head in grievance. Harry thought he would've been in the running for a House Prefect, but apparently not. "Are you sure? I would have thought you would get one."

"I'm sure. Nothing," Harry said. There was an awkward pause. "So... congratulations Ron, Hermione..."

"Well... thanks Harry," Hermione said.

"Come on, let's go back downstairs," Ron said to Hermione.

"Yes, do go enjoy yourselves."

Hermione gently shut the door on her way out. She felt horrible that Harry wasn't a prefect like he wanted to be, but she had something else on her mind. Draco was also a prefect. She couldn't help but think about all the time they would be spending together this year. They'd be patrolling the hallways, monitoring the meals, engaging in leadership meetings. They'd be using the same bathroom. They'd be using the same bathtub.
