Hermione decided to write Draco back. She wanted to tell him what was going on with the Philosopher's Stone, but she couldn't risk writing that in a letter.
Dear Draco,
I have to tell you something. Meet me outside the Quidditch Pitch at nine.
Hermione
The curfew for first and second years was ten o'clock, so they should be fine, Hermione thought. Hermione got dressed and went up to the Owlery to deliver her note to Draco. She went to breakfast with Harry and Ron.
"Morning, boys," Hermione said as she sat down and started loading her plate.
"Morning, Hermione," Ron said with a full mouth.
"I hope you slept well last night, 'Mione," Harry said. "I couldn't sleep a wink."
"Why's that?" Hermione asked.
"I was thinking," Harry said.
"About You-Know-Who?" Hermione whispered.
"Yes, he's out there and he's out to get me," Harry said.
"Now how can you be sure-" Harry cut Hermione off.
"I'm sure. I'm the only one that he hasn't been able to defeat." The trio silently ate their breakfast.
"So how do you guys think you did on your exams?" Ron asked as they stood up and walked out to the courtyard.
"I've always heard Hogwarts' end of the year exams were frightful, but I found that rather enjoyable," Hermione said.
"Speak for yourself. All right there, Harry?" Ron asked. Harry kept rubbing his forehead and wincing.
"My scar. It keeps burning," Harry said.
"It's happened before," Hermione noted.
"Not like this."
"Perhaps you should see the nurse," Ron said.
"I think it's a warning. It means dangers coming. Ahh!" Harry rubbed his scar. "Oh, of course!" Harry explained. He started running for Hagrid's hut. Ron and Hermione reluctantly followed him.
"What is it?" Hermione asked.
"Don't you think it's a bit odd that what Hagrid wants more than anything is a dragon and a stranger shows up and just happens to have one?" The trio approached Hagrid who was playing a tune on his flute. "I mean, how many people wander around with dragon eggs in their pockets? Why didn't I see it before? Hagrid, who gave you the dragon egg?" Hagrid stopped playing. "What did he look like?"
"I don't know. I never saw his face. He kept his hood up," Hagrid said.
"The stranger, though, you and he must have talked," Harry said.
"Well, he wanted to know what sort of creatures I looked after. I told him. I said, 'After Fluffy, a dragon's gonna be no problem.'"
"And did he seem interested in Fluffy?"
"Well, of course he was interested in Fluffy! How often do you come across a three headed dog, even if you're in the trade? But I told him, I said, 'The trick with any beast is to know how to calm him. Take Fluffy, for example, just play him a bit of music and he falls straight to sleep.'" The three dropped open their jaws. "I shouldn't have told you that." The trio started running. None of them talked about it, but they knew exactly where they were going. "Where you going?! Wait!" Hagrid yelled in the distance. The trio arrived at McGonagall's classroom and came barrelling down the aisle.
