Jaemin's POV
Once I opened the door, I saw Soojin being treated by that guy and I felt so worried and mad.
She didn't even bother looking at me.
I just wanted to know what really happened for her to act that way towards Hyuri.
I saw how her smile immediately faded when she walked past by us.
I clenched my jaw and gulped.
"Soojin." I softly called.
"I didn't do anything wrong." She suddenly said which startled me.
I was about to follow them when Hyuri held my arm to stop me.
"Why don't you just let them be?" She simply said.
I sighed and decided to go back inside and Soo-ah looked so pissed.
As soon as I sat down, her eyes rolled and suddenly scoffed when she saw us together.
"I didn't knew you would actually go that low. Stop acting innocent and apologize to her." She suddenly said as she scrolled through her phone.
Is that statement for me?
"Oh...I was about to-" I said but she cut me off.
"Hey. Are you deaf or something? Why did you that?" She said as she looked at Hyuri intently.
Soo-ah was so mad. Her voice didn't raise but it was so stern.
"Soo-ah. What's wrong with you? You're scaring us." Eunkyung asked as she nudged her.
Haechan and Renjun looked so lost like I was, too.
"Why don't you tell them what you did, Hyuri? Come on. Stop with that crappy acting and tell them everything. I wasn't supposed to do this but you took me to my limits." She said.
"The department heads will know about this. I'm warning you and I'm not even kidding. Apologize or choose to pay the consequences." Soo-ah said as she took her phone and left the office.
Hyuri felt so uncomfortable because she was fiddling with her fingers and I had a hint that something was off.
"Follow me." I said and pulled her by the wrist.
I took her in the empty hallway and asked her privately.
"I'm gonna ask you one last time. What happened?" I asked as I clenched my fist.
"I've told you already! I don't know! Your friend suddenly tried to slap me, Jaemin!" She said.
"Stop lying in front of my face. Please." I pleaded.
"Soo-ah won't be that mad for no reason. What did you do?" I asked.
She gulped and looked away.
"Hyuri."
"Can you tell me straight to my face that you like Soojin?" She suddenly said as she cleared a lump on her throat.
"You guys know..." I said.
"You're only implying stuff. But you never had the courage to tell me nor anyone about your feelings for her." She said and I felt guilty.
"Why? Why do you like her?" She asked.
"Should there be a reason?" I answered.
"WHY. I'm asking you a simple question. Is it that hard to answer??" She scoffed.
I heaved a sigh and smiled.
"Everything happened unexpectedly. She was my kind of serendipity and she was the reason why my grudges against you were all gone. She taught me to free myself from pain and try new things for myself. I liked her because she's spontaneous. Everything she does even when she simply stares at me makes my heart flutter. Soojin is someone so important to me more than you'll ever know." I said.
"So if you're asking why I like her. Then that'll be my answer." I said with a small smile.
Hyuri suddenly broke into tears and I felt so bad for her. She covered her face using both of her hands and I stared at her feeling so much in pain.
"I'm sorry I had to let go of us now. I'm sorry for not being able to be there for you back then." I said.
"But we can still remain as friends, Hyuri. Just like how we started." I said.
"No! I don't want to have you just as a friend. Why can't it be me again? Jaemin, we can start all over again and forget the past. It took me forever just to come back here. Can't you please hear me out?" She desperately said as she hugged me tightly.
"Hyuri." I said, trying to calm her down.
"Will you hate me if I tell you I purposely did that to her?" She said as she stared at me with her eyes filled with tears.
"W-What?" I asked.
"I did that to her. I did that to her intentionally." She mumbled.
I froze right there and then.
"I said I did that to her!" She repeated as she slapped my chest.
"Why?" I said. That was the only question I had in mind.
"Isn't it obvious? I don't like her. I fucking hate her for having your attention and love. I can't let her have you. Not you, Jaem." She muttered in almost a whisper.
"Cut it out. I'm not that 'Jaem' you had known before." I said.
"Huh?"
"I'm not yours. I'm not your 'jaemjaem' anymore. Please stop acting as if we're still a couple and besides, we already talked things out haven't we? Please don't make me hate you for the second time." I said as I pushed her away from me.
"You've changed a lot. You're not the Hyuri I met and loved back then. I'm so disappointed."
"No. You don't understand. I can't just let us end this way, Jaemin. What do you want me to do, for you to forgive me?" Hyuri said as she held on my arm.
"Apologize. Soojin is someone important to me. So important that if you ever mess with her again, you'll end up messing with me too." I said as I looked at her, straight in the eyes.
She looked so terrified and guilty.
I felt so guilty for accusing Soojin all along. I should've known that she would never do such thing.
"What if she doesn't feel the same towards you?" She suddenly said as she let go of my arm.
"I'll be fine with it. She doesn't need to return the favor of liking me back. You see, Love doesn't always mean receiving. For me, Love is something you give without expecting something in return. I love her and that's all that matters to me." I said and walked away, leaving her in tears.
