Simon's eyes shot open at the sudden noise he has never become a custom too. Simon fought the urge to go back to sleep by flinging his covers away from his body and placing his feet on the floor one-by-one. He swears it gets harder every day. You see if this was five years ago he would be having an adorable little 6-year-old jumping on his bed and wishing him a good morning.
Simon's heart stung at the memory. But, this isn't five years ago. This is today and today Simon had a missing 11-year old somewhere in this country or... continent. Shoving his arms into his dressing gown sleeves. Simon walked into the kitchen where he saw Liam at the dining table eating cereal and revising over his school notes.
"That boy just works too hard," Simon thought to himself, fixing up a bowl of cereal.
"What you working on?" Simon asked taking a spoonful of his corn flakes.
"Oh, it's school stuff," Liam vaguely explained not letting himself take all his attention off his revision.
"Sounds fun," Simon told before pouring a mug of coffee. Just when Niall marched downstairs fully dressed and showered with his school bag.
"You're going to school?" Simon asked curiously. It had only been a week since Selena died and Simon didn't want to rush him in going back to school if he wasn't ready.
"Yep" he chirped "can't spend your life being sad," he smiled. Simon noticed the judgmental glare Liam was sending him. Like he was non verbally communicating to him that this sudden change in behaviour may be a problem.
"You know Niall, there's no need to rush. You've been through a lot this week," Simon informed, he didn't feel entirely comfortable with this sudden change either.
"It's fine, I got this" Niall reassured his concerned brother and father.
"Well, only if you're sure," Simon gave a smile placing his half-eaten cereal on the counter. He didn't eat much lately, he didn't feel like eating. His mind was too busy with hoping if Louis is okay.
Niall put some wholegrain bread in the toaster and grabbed an avocado and a banana from the fridge. Both Simon and Liam raised his eyebrows at this one. Niall... eating healthy... impossible.
"What?" Niall asked after seeing his brother and father stare at him with a confused expression. Simon shook himself out of his train of thought.
"Oh, just not use to seeing you voluntarily eat healthily?" He answered getting an upbeat response from his son.
"Well," he was interrupted by the toaster and started to spread half an avocado in the piece of bread "guess, I'm a brand new me." He simply replied. Simon gave a nod. he didn't know if he should be proud of Niall in trying to improve himself or concerned. Zayn soon joined the family, it was clear he just got out of bed. He still had bed head and his PJs on.
"Good morning" he yawned grabbing the milk out of the fridge and chugging it out of the carton.
"Morning" everyone replied.
"Where's Harry?" Simon asked his boys all but Niall shook their heads.
"Last time I saw him he was in our room" He replied, Simon gave a nod and walked upstairs. if he didn't get harry up by now they would be late for school. Simon walked straight into the two boys' room and saw Harry fully dressed sitting by his desk, rushing his homework he didn't finish last night.
"Come' on Harry you gotta go and eat something," Simon told sternly knowing that Harry would be on edge with his unfinished work.
"Okay," he brushed off Simon's request not moving from his desk.
