The sun was so bright I could barely open my eyes. The sand beneath me was soft like a warm blanket on a winters day. I was trying to remember what happened. Why am I on a tropical beach? A loud noise from behind me interrupted my thinking session. I turned my head over and saw a girl my age snapping branches in half.
"Hello?" I asked. The girl turned around, her brown hair flipping across her face.
"Camryn!" She exclaimed. This girl was familiar. Who was she? Then it hit me.
"Emma?! Why are you here? And why are you snapping branches in half...?" I peered down at the rugged jumble of branches scooped up in her arms.
"Oh, tryin' to collect some fire wood, and I don't know. All everyone received was this letter."
"Wait, there are more people here? Who!?"
"Umm, I don't know. I'm guessing other friends?"
I gazed down at the sandy ground, trying to make some sense out of whatever was happening.
"This is so weird." I sighed. How did this happen? I tried to remember the last thing that happened, but I can't. I can't remember anything. I have no memory of my family- well no memories of anything, actually.
"Can I see that letter of yours, Emma?" She hands a crumpled piece of paper to me. I unravel it with caution, as if I'm holding the worlds most valuable piece of paper, which is boarder line idiotic. I whispered the words on the page to myself.
"You and six of your friends have been brought here for a good reason. You must make your way back home together. But I should warn you- everything has changed since you have been disconnected from the world. You may find it... Magical."
"Stars, this is confusing." I exclaim, sitting down on the sand while scratching my head. Emma sat down beside me and dropped all of her wood in front of her.
"Yeah." she agreed.
"So why do you think we're here? I mean, the note says that we are her for a 'good reason', but I can't think of one reasonable answer as to why these people took away all of a group of children's memories and threw them on a stranded island to fend for themselves." I asked.
"Well, I've actually thought about that a lot and the only thing I could come up with is that we are being tested."
I gave her a questioning look. "Tested?"
"Yeah, like to see if we are smart enough er whatever to be able to make it home. Maybe they're gonna make a giant army of magic-infused children to fight the worlds battles between other planets in the galaxy." Emma smiled to herself and laughed a little at the last thing she said. I laughed too. You'd think that now wouldn't be a great time to laugh at a pretty crazy idea, but honestly, what else was there to do?
