"There's more of us." Naomi panted. I gave her a questioning look.
"There's more people coming. Two more. They'll be here any minute."
I nodded.
"So, uh... If you don't mind me asking, what happened to your head?" I asked.
"Oh, well, I was with some other people our age on our own raft when a giant sea monster came and attacked us. It's tail was covered with spikes, which caught me right in the head." She explained, wiping blood from her temple. "Only the two other girls and I made it." Naomi looked down at her feet when she said those last few words. She obviously had a strong connection with them, just like I do with my friends.
"Wait a minute, it's you and two other girls that are coming on our boat?"
Naomi glanced at me awkwardly.
"You allergic to women, or somethin'?"
I smiled.
"No, it's just that there is one guy on this raft, six girls including me, plus you and two others, which makes nine girls. There are ten kids on this raft, and only one of them is a boy."
"Oh, that is pretty unlucky." Naomi laughed.
All of a sudden, I heard a girl shout,
"Naomi!"
I peered out into the dark ocean and spotted a small girl with short chestnut hair swimming towards us. Another girl with longer blonde hair was following close behind.
"That's them." Naomi declared. I nodded then turned around, faced everyone else that was sleeping (which was everyone), and yelled,
"WE'VE GOT COMPANY!"
Everyone's eyes popped open and they sat up immediately, except for Kolby, who kept on sleeping.
"He's gonna have an unpleasant surprise when he wakes up." Naomi laughed.
"Yeah."
I helped up the two girls onto the raft. The boat sank a bit once all ten of us were seated on it. But I knew we wouldn't have to make any changes or build a new one because not all of us were going to make it to Alaska.
