Dan darts into the cafe as the rain picks up, cursing softly at himself for not bringing an umbrella.
He, apparently, was not the only one who took shelter in the small cafe. About 7 other people were ordering something or sitting down at a table, a good six of them looking slightly drenched. Another person darts in behind Dan, and he decides that getting a coffee wouldn't be such a bad idea.
He waits in line, examining the menu while the other people ordered.
"Hey, how can I help you?" The cashier chirps, and Dan stumbled over his words a bit.
"Uh- I'll have a small black coffee, please."
"Alright, whats your name?" They ask as they ring up his order.
"Uh- Dan."
He pays and waits at a table, staring out the window at the pouring rain.
"Dan?" He stands up, walking over to get his coffee.
"Thanks," a guy with black hair smiles at him and he smiles back slightly.
"Enjoy your coffee!"
"You too- goddamn it." Dan grumbles, making the other laugh. It didn't seem malicious though, so he felt moderately better.
He sits in his chair, feeling like slamming his head into the table repeatedly.
Suddenly, someone slides into a chair across from him.
"Hey, I'm Phil!"
It was the guy with black hair.
"Dan."
"I figured I'd spend lunch enjoying my coffee, because of the rain and all!"
Dan chuckles, feeling far better about his slip up.
They spent the next thirty minutes chatting, and they found out they had a lot in common.
"Hey, I'd love to keep talking but my lunch break is over. I had fun though!"
"Yeah, same. See you around?"
"For sure!"
Dan looks out the window; the rain had calmed down enough he could probably get to the bus stop. He sees a napkin with something scribbled on it; a number. He chuckles slightly, grabbing it and stuffing it in his pocket before waving to Phil and heading out, running through the streets.
When he finally gets home, he pulls out the napkin. He notices more writing, "Text me sometime, cutie <3"
He blushes a bit, shaking his head with a grin.
"This is so clichè."
