On his best days, Shu Kurenai didn't mind when people assumed he was dense.

On his not so good days, he felt a tad bit annoyed at how these assumptions came to be. Was it because he didn't talk a lot? Was it because there were girls literally stockpiling love letters in his locker and he never once, not once, paid any heed to them? Was it because he was pining after the same person for almost a year and did nothing about it?

Yeah, that was probably it.

With Shu's growing friendship with his teammates, even Wakiya for that matter who managed to have one single conversation with him without challenging him to a battle , he grew a lot more confident with his social interactions.

Coming back to pining, it had been an entire year (almost) since Shu discovered the existence of (l/n) (y/n). She was in his year, his class even, but among the quieter crowd. She wasn't shy, something that most people misunderstood about quiet people. She would talk to literally everyone—even Wakiya and (y/n) got along quite well, battling together sometimes, but she would keep to herself mostly. In his first year, she sat beside him, which was what developed the interest the albino had on her now. Now that they're in their second year, academics got a bit more intense, BeyBlading needed to be given time, and romance took a back seat.

But, what he didn't understand is why people called him dense. He once asked Daigo if there was a problem in how he interacted with people or if he misunderstands people's words. This could be the case, considering he wasn't all too fond of social communication. He struggled in answering him, not knowing exactly what to say.

But, that day, three weeks before spring break, Wakiya had answered his question.

"You idiot, you're dense because you can't see she likes you back!"

He yelled when the entire roof was quiet. Shu's eyes widened at his outburst, and he was relieved that (y/n) wasn't there at the moment.  Honcho began to chuckle, Valt gave him a waned apologetic look, and Daigo didn't meet his eye. His friends had betrayed him.

"What do you mean by that?"

Wakiya scoffed, "It means exactly what it sounds like ."

All Shu could do was blink in confusion. (y/n) liked him back? How in the world was that possible?

"But, how—"

"I think this is why they call you dense, Shu." Daigo  said, apologetically.

A while later, (y/n) entered class, nodding at everyone and going to her seat. She wasn't beside him anymore, in fact, she was a few seats away, sitting right behind Wakiya . Shouto didn't really like the interactions they shared, despite knowing Wakiya wasn't interested in her the same way. He had the personality of a conquering meerkat—who would announce to the world who he had his eyes set on. And since that didn't happen, Shu was left in peace to admire (y/n) in secret.

Just as she sat down at her desk, the first thing she did was look at him. Shu's eyes widened before noticing her turn away, her face slightly reddening, and now she focused on taking her book out. Shu looked ahead, taking his own book out. Strange, he thought, frowning a bit, but there was nothing more to say or think about.

It was during lunch when he caught her looking at him again. Shu was standing in line to get his lunch when he turned and noticed (y/n), standing a bit away. He noticed her looking at him and he tilted his head questioningly at her. Did she need something? Was that why she was looking at him?
