I felt inspired for some reason and then wrote this, thinking of coming back to this book now.

WARNING: Angst, Valt x Daigo

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whatever Valt wants, Valt gets.

That had been the case for as long as you could remember.

The beauty of it was that Valt never really outright asked for things. It was always just longing eyes and sheepish smiles and thoughtful words that always went something along the lines of: "That looks nice," whenever he saw other kids walk away from an ice-cream van with their hands full, or "I've been trying to save up for that," whenever he walked past movie posters in shop windows - or other variants of that sort of passive wistfulness.

At some point, you had gotten sick of hearing about it all. You bought Valt ice-cream. Took him to go see the movies he was curious about.

You sat beside Valt on his first roller coaster ride ever, taught him how to ice skate one winter, bought him his first ever bubble tea, lent him a video game that he'd been eyeing enviously whenever they'd been gathered at Shu's house, shared a Netflix screen with him - everything. It reached a point where you seemed to have spoiled Valt with everything in his power.

The first time you'd felt that way, you were being lighthearted about it.

This time, however.

There was nothing funny about it this time.

"Daigo is really nice, isn't he?" He says, staring somewhere beyond your shoulder and tugging at the grass at his ankles.

The two had been sitting cross-legged in their school's back field for break that day, after their friends had split for their respective lunchtime clubs.

"And he's handsome..." he adds, putting his blushing face into his hands.

This was not a wish that you'd intended to grant for Valt.

Turns out, Valt didn't need your help.

A week later, a yellow-haired boy sleepily pads over to you.

"Mind if I sit..." Free's request is interrupted by a yawn, "...here?"

No, piss off, Valt sits here, is the simple answer.

But you were never straightforward about these things. You live to be an inconvenience.

"I mean you could,"  you begin mischievously. "But this is Valt's seat, see? Wherever I go, he goes. And he gets really mad when he can't be with me. He might lay a curse on you from across the room if he sees you sitting here."

It's only half a lie. It was Valt's seat - in that he defaulted to sitting beside you in this class. It wasn't a hard-and-fast rule that he had to sit there, though.

And he certainly doesn't get upset whenever he couldn't be with you.

Free's next line only confirms just how true that is.

"Oh, I knew..." he yawns again, "...that. But I only came here because..."

He yawns a third time, gesturing vaguely in the direction of his usual seat beside Daigo.

And  you look over to find that Free's seat was filled.

By Valt.

Well, now you were relieved that you hadn't told him to piss off so coldly after all.
