Although Lyra always kept a calm and cool facade on the outside, the girl was mildly panicking on the inside. Lyra was good at interrogation. It didn't take much to get what she wanted out of someone. All she had to do was pounce on a guy, and punch something. This was something different altogether.
This was a man of high authority. The FBI! Lyra couldn't fall back to her usual M.O. here. Talking wasn't her strongest skill, but she had to try. For both her sake, and her brothers'.
"I'm afraid I can't help you sir. I've never seen him before." Lyra said with as straight a face as she could manage. The FBI eyed them with his unnerving cold eyes. The white haired girl could feel how tense her brother was.
"Sir if you have questions for me that's fine, but my brother has had a long day, and he needs his rest." Lyra said. Zhao Chen's eyes were on Charlie.
"Why are you covered in bruises son?" The man questioned. Charlie's eyes widened in fear locking with his sister's.
"Uh-errrm-Uuhhh" Lyra's brother stuttered. Charlie was worse then Lyra when it came to authority figures.
"He got mugged earlier. You know how New York is." Lyra spoke up in an attempt to bail her brother out. Chen's silence unnerved Lyra to a great degree.
"Right so if you don't mind, we should get him inside." Before Lyra could take a step Zhao Chen had a gun in Charlie's face.
"How about we cut the bullshit." Chen said.
"Lyra." Charlie said with terror in his voice. Lyra's nerves sky rocketed. Taking a deep breath she attempted to calm herself. Picking her words she finally spoke.
"You wanna cut the shit fine, but leave him out of this." She said forcefully to the FBI man.
"I don't think you're in any position to negotiate." The man said venomously. Lyra was quiet after that. One false move on her part and her brother could die.
"What do you want?" She asked. His face morphed into anger.
"I want to know where the monkey is!" He yelled.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" She yelled back. Charlie was sweating profusely he was so scared. His eyes, and fists were clamped shut.
"I know you're lying to me. We have you on camera with him." He accused the girl. "So either tell me where the monkey is, or I blow his brains out." Chen threatened.
"Lyra please don't let him kill me." Charlie said tears falling from his eyes.
"I won't Charlie. Everything will be fine." The white haired girl said. Although she wasn't entirely sure whether she was trying to assure her brother or herself.
"Yes make promises we all know you can't keep, rather than telling me what I want to know." The FBI agent said.
"I can't tell you what I don't know!" Lyra said.
"I'm going to count to three. If you don't tell me where the monkey is, bye bye meth head brother." Zhao Chen said. The white haired girls electric blues ignited in fury.
"One" he started.
"Lyra!" Charlie sobbed.
"Two"
"I don't want to die." Charlie said tears and snot pouring down his face.
Before Chen could count to three, Lyra pounced on the man. With a brief struggle she wrestled the gun out of the man's hand pointing it at the FBI agent.
"Charlie get behind me." Lyra said. The girl reached a hand out putting him behind her.
"I don't care who you are or what you want. Nobody threatens my brother while I still draw breath!" She yelled out. Zhao Chen was silent at the girl's proclamation. A smile grew on the FBI agent's face.
"I guess you'll both die then." He said taking steps towards the two.
"I'll shoot don't come any closer." Lyra threatened. Chen didn't listen and continued forward. "Fine then." She said pulling the trigger unloading on him. The man collapsed to his knees and fell face first on the hard pavement.
"Lyra! Wuh- what did you do!?" Charlie screamed. If his eyes were any wider they'd fall out of his face.
"Now's not the time to ask questions. We need to run." Lyra told. The two ran down the street. They weren't sure how long they were running for, but finally stopped when Charlie needed a minute to breathe.
"You- you killed that guy. He's dead." Charlie said his voice quivering.
"Yeah I did." Lyra said with a sigh, with her face in her hands.
"Why are you so calm about this!?" Charlie screamed.
"Charlie!" The white haired girl yelled. The young man clammed up at his sister's tone. She used the voice that left no room for argument. The young man slumped against the wall and started crying again.
"We're going to jail, our lives are over." Charlie managed to cry out. Grabbing both his shoulders Lyra picked Charlie up.
"No we are not. It's going to be ok." She tried to console her brother.
"I don't understand how you can act like nothing happened." Charlie said.
"It's not the first time I've done this Charlie." She said.
"Lyra you-" but his words were cutoff by Lyra.
"Yes I've killed people before. How do you think I found you Charlie? How do you think I got you out. You think I just walked up and said 'Hey can I get my drug addicted brother back?' No I didn't." She told him.
"Well after a confession like that I can arrest you and have you locked up for life." A voice said. Turning around quickly her electric eyes wide in shock.
"Then again I could only do that if I was actually FBI." Zhao Chen said to the two, his body perfectly fine despite getting shot. Walking up to the two Zhao Chen grabbed Charlie throwing him into a faraway wall.
"Char-" Lyra's was unable to finish do to Chen. His hand wrapped tightly around the girl's throat, lifting her off her feet.
"Where is the monkey?" The man asked in his most threatening voice. Her electric eyes ignited in a fury. Grabbing the arm that had her raised. Prying the hand off her, she proceeded to kick the man away from her sending him flying.
To her surprise Zhao Chen stood back up. This was only the beginning.
