After they agreed to look over the file together Raymond and Lyra were seen in a random hotel room. What Lyra would learn about Raymond was that he was completely useless when it came to reading. The girl had an annoyed look on her face as she looked at Raymond laying back in one of the beds. He had his eyes closed, hands laced together on his abdomen, and one leg over the other.

"I thought you said we were going to look over these papers." The white haired girl asked.

"You said that not me." Raymond said not looking at her.

"So your just going to let me read through your file?" She asked him.

"Well I planned to sleep for a day or two than flip through it later, but I got you here now." He said with a small smile.

"Sleep for a full day?" She asked.

"Or two give or take." Raymond said.

"How do you know I won't steal it, and run?" She pressed on. Raymond's lax behavior was a bit unnerving to the girl.

"I don't." Was the last thing Raymond said before falling asleep.

Lyra just looked exasperated at the sleeping man. She didn't know if he was naive or stupid, maybe both. To say Raymond was odd would be an understatement, but he also seemed genuine something she hasn't experienced for a long time.

As Lyra looked through the papers she came to one conclusion. Raymond Scott needed help, and she was going to be his back up.

Raymond opened his eyes only he wasn't in the hotel room anymore. He was back in his old house, which meant only one thing. The tailed male looked to his left and saw his mother sitting there.

"So I'm back here again." He stated.

"So you are." His mother responded. Raymond let out a small chuckle as he leaned his head back. Bringing up his hands to his golden eyes  rubbing at them.

"This a regular thing now? I fall asleep, and end up here?" He asked her.

"I don't know about every time. You need to get more sleep." She told him. Again Raymond chuckled.

"You're not lying about that." He said with a smile.

"I see you made a new friend." She prompted. Raymond shrugged.

"Fingers crossed right? For all I know she'll cut and run." Raymond said. The half monkey had been alone for so long he wasn't going to hold his breath.

"I can assure you she hasn't." His mom told him. Raymond smiled at that. "I need to tell you something, before you go." His mother's expression was serious.

"What is it?" Sensing the tone shift from his mother.

"That man that Lyra spoke of is still alive. He wants you dead." Raymond let out a breath, and couldn't help the small laugh that erupted.

"Sorry. It's just who isn't trying to kill me?" The half monkey asked making light of the situation. The intense look of his mother silenced anything else he had to say.

"Promise me you'll be careful." She said. Raymond nodded feeling small under his mother's gaze.

"I promise." Raymond said.
---------------------------------------------------------

Raymond woke up after making the promise to his mother. With a groan the half monkey sat up on the side of the bed.

"You weren't kidding when you said a day." A voice behind him said.

"I see you didn't leave." Raymond said to Lyra.

"Yeah well, you could definitely use some help." She told him.

"No doubt about that. Any licensed therapist would have a field day picking through my head." He said golden eyes playful. Lyra rolled her electric eyes.

"I meant with whatever the you got yourself into." The white haired girl told him.

"Right that too." Raymond said standing and stretching. "I'm gonna go clean up." He added going to the bathroom.

Taking his clothes off he stretched out his tail. A satisfied groan escaped his lips at the freedom of his tail. He usually put it through his belt loops to hide. Although uncomfortable at first he got used to it. After his shower he smelled his clothes.

"Ugh I need some new clothes." He said recoiling at the smell. Reluctantly he put them on anyway. Stepping out of the bathroom he saw Lyra sitting on the other bed Indian style still looking at the papers.

"Anything good in there?" Raymond asked the girl.

"Yeah while you were getting your beauty sleep there's all sorts of thing in here. Zhao Chen is in here, and some old guy named Gerald Collins. Apparently he's some sort of-" the girl trailed off after that as her eyes widened. Raymond was confused as to why she stopped talking when it suddenly hit him.

"Oh right you haven't seen it yet have you." He said turning his back to her so she could get a better look at the appendage at his lower back. On the outside he was cool as a cucumber. On the inside his stomach was in knots. People didn't react well to his tail. Secretly he was hoping Lyra would be the exception.

"I guess you weren't kidding about the monkey king being your dad." Was what she said. He let out a breath that was good right? Right? "I guess with the stuff we've seen and done a tail is pretty low on the list." She added as an after thought. Relief flooded his body at her words.

"You were saying about some old guy?" Raymond asked.

"Right this guy here." She said holding up a picture. "His name is Gerald Collins he's a fancy art collector out west." She told him. His ears perked at that.

"Where out west?" Raymond asked.

"Vegas." She told him.

"Well then." The half monkey said grabbing his coat.

"Guess we're headed west."

Elsewhere

"Do you understand your orders." Zhao Chen spoke. The mysrerious man was on the same rooftop with two new men. One was a giant of a man standing taller then Chen himself. The other was smaller with spikey hair, and an unnerving grin.

"Yeah yeah. Kill the monkey kid and the broad. Then take his precious stick. This ain't our first rodeo." The smaller man said. Chen just glared at the small man.

"You have your job go." Zhao Chen said dismissing the two.

"What ever you say grandpa. Let's boogy." The shorter man said elbowing the larger man's ribs. As the two walked away Zhao Chen grumbled to himself.

"How I hate the youth."
