"...anyway, so I was thinking that we should go to the salon for a day and just get everything they offer. Manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, waxing, new haircut and color...."

Amy was on a mission to make me happy today. I don't know why today was so much different than any other day. I guess people always make an extra effort on your birthday. I have really only had one birthday that I loved, and it was five years ago. Izzy was born two weeks before my birthday, and I always said she was my favorite gift.

We were sitting in my favorite sandwich shop by my work. I had a two hour lunch today and Amy was busy making plans as I day dreamed out the window. She paid for lunch and walked me back to work before going back to her work, too.

I was back at work for a little over an hour, when Liam walked in.

"Hey." he said as he set down a cinnamon latte on the front desk.

"Hi." I said back smiling at the 'Happy birthday' written on the side of the cup. "Thank you." I said.

"It comes with strings attached." He said smiling at me.

"Oh yea?" I said as I took a sip.

"Can I take you to dinner for your birthday?" He asked.

"Liam, you don't ha..."

"I want to. I always used to take you out for your birthday dinner." He said.

I shrugged, "Ok. When should I be ready?" I asked him.

"I'll pick you up at 6:30." He said with a smile.

"I'll see you then. Thank you for the coffee." I said.

I was done at 4:00 and I drove home. I asked Amy to meet me at home, but didn't tell her why. I pulled into the garage and walked inside.

"Hey, Mom..." I called as I set my purse down. I saw her come from the kitchen into view. I walked towards her as I talked, "Liam wants to take me out for my birthday like he used..." I froze as I saw what was on the kitchen table. I looked over at Mom, and she just nodded.

I saw a card within the daisies and coral roses.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday

I ran my finger over the letters. I folded the card open, like I always do, and I put it back in the plastic holder. I leaned in and smelled the roses, and a small smile pulled at my lips.

"I'm going to go shower. Amy should be here soon." I said as I kissed Izzy on the head while she watched cartoons.

"Ok." Mom said as she watched me walk away.

I quickly showered and I was blow drying my hair when Amy walked into the room.

"Hey. What's going on?" She said leaning on the door frame.
