"(Y/n). A word."
You look up from your station and see Elena. Darn it. You were in the zone before she arrived. Still, you nod your head and set some materials down before following Elena to her office. "Everything alright?"
"Sí. You're fine. Just need to inform you about a couple of things."
You nod, but there's a part of you that's anxious. Is something wrong? Did you mess up? Was there a malfunction with one of the devices? Were your reports insufficient? All of these questions were going through your mind on the walk over to Elena's office. You were sure everything was alright, but there was still that part of you that was skeptic.
You sit down on the other side of her desk, trying to keep a composure that won't give anything away (and hoping this wasn't about the small explosion from one of your failed experiments.). "So (y/n). You know how you've been supervising most of the weapon reports?"
"Yeah?"
"Well, Harry has informed me that two more people have been asked to join Team Rainbow. One of them is Nighthaven, so- I know. I'm not a fan either. I'm still going to see if we can test their gadgets, but don't be surprised if we can't get our hands on them. The other recruit, though, is from the Inkaba Task Force and a former member of the South African National Defense Force."
"That's cool. What are we working with?"
Elena pushed a couple of pictures of the device towards you along with a couple of schematics. "It's called a Banshee Sonic Defense."
You pick up one of the photos. "Judging by that name I'm guessing it involves sound."
"You'd be right with that assumption."
"So who's going to be working with me on this one?"
"Well, I've been thinking about that, and I've picked someone to help. I just hope I'm picking the right one for this, but given how well you two work together, I think I may be confident with my pick."
"Okay. So Masaru. That's cool. I've been meaning to-"
"No. Not him. He did come to mind, but that's not who I want to work on this one."
"Really? Huh. Emmanuelle?"
"I was actually thinking Ela."
You look up from the photo, eyebrows raised. "You're kidding me, right?"
"No lo soy. I've been thinking about it. She knows her stuff and the two of you created that concussion mine of hers. Both involve the triggering of movement and use sound to its advantage."
"You do realize that you're telling me I'm working with my girlfriend, right? And we'll be alone in the testing chambers together you know."
"I am aware of your relationship. I am also aware that you two work very well together. Just don't make the experimental lab an experimental lab for-"
"Yeah yeah yeah I got it." You and Elena share a laugh. "That's cool. I'm sure Ela will be excited about that. When do they arrive?"
"Later this week. I'm going to let Ela know before she goes back into the training grounds. You keep working on your proximity alarms. I hear they're almost ready."
"Yeah. Just need a bit more fine tuning on the range and everything, but we should be good for field testing soon."
"Excelente."
You bid farewell to Elena and get back to work. It isn't too much longer before your phone plays Ela's ringtone. You decide to act all nonchalant when picking up the phone, because why not? It amused you. "Hey Ela. What's up?"
