Harry took control of the car a few hours later, and I was positive we were lost, insisting we ask for directions, but Harry was being stubborn as usual, saying that we would get back onto the highway soon.

Ellie was getting fed up and Harry still hadn't gotten used to the fact that I had to change her diaper, (which were in short supply) several times a day.

"Harry, I really think we should ask for directions. I have no idea where we are," I insisted as I frowned at the complicated map that I was trying to decipher.

"Real men don't ask for directions ok?" He replied, his eyes squinting through the sunlight. There was no way we were going to get back onto the highway without getting some advice.

"Jesus Christ Harry, just pull over. Look! I'll go ask that man over there," I said, pointing to the man dressed in shabby clothes that stood on the pavement, probably waiting on a bus or something.

"Fuck no, he looks like a homeless drunk," Harry said sternly.

"Don't be ridiculous Harry, just pull over," I replied, rolling my eyes.

Harry's hands tightened around the steering wheel. "I said no, ok? We don't know what he could be capable of."

"Harry for gods sake, pull the damn car over," I said, shooting him a glare so sincere that he exhaled a tired sigh of defeat and brought the car to a stop beside the shabbily dressed man.

"Make sure your purse is out of reach," I heard him say under his breath as I rolled the window down to look the man.

"Hi, I was wondering if you could tell us how to get back onto the highway from here?" I asked him politely.

The man's eyebrows furrowed and he squinted his eyes at me and his face was overcome with confusion as he stared blankly at me.

"I no speak good English," he finally spoke whilst waving his finger at me. I felt my face turn bright red with embarrassment, but I caught his slight Spanish accent. How could I have been so stupid? We must have been in the Spanish speaking region of New Mexico.

"Oh uh, lo siento señor, ¿podría decirnos cómo llegar a la carretera por favor?" I said, my attentiveness in Spanish class finally paying off.

The man smiled in comprehension and pointed us in the right direction, still speaking in Spanish of course. I thanked him gratefully before we sped off down the road.

I glanced at Harry to find a smirk of amusement lingering on his lips. "What are you laughing at?" I demanded, only to see his smirk grow.

He chuckled and shook his head. "You speak Spanish," he stated, looking at me quickly with a glint in his eye.

"Soo?" I urged him to continue.

"It's kind of hot," he admitted, biting his lip.

"Flattery may get you many places with other women, but not with me stud," I sassed him, my confident words surprising me.

"Oh trust me Clary, I've noticed," he said with a sigh.

----x----

A few arguments and misdirections later, we found ourselves in Texas, and I was overly excited to be half way home.

I was practically bouncing in my seat as we drove past the sign. We had made it this far in two and a half days. I would definitely be home in time for my wedding. Or so I hoped..

I twisted the silver ring that was slipped on my finger just below my knuckle. I never thought that something like this would happen to me. Driving across the country with my baby daddy to get home in time for my wedding. I laughed lowly to myself and Harry gave me a look of confusion.

Ellie was singing the Disney song, 'Let it go,' from the movie Frozen, which she was obsessed with. "Hi I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs!" She quoted enthusiastically. I could see the smile tugging at Harry's lips and I knew he had a fondness growing for her, no matter how small it was.

"Do you think this car is going to last much longer?" I asked him. We had refilled it's fuel tank countless times already, and the engine had a tendency to over heat quite a lot.

"I don't know, we'll just have to keep going until it stops," Harry replied. He needed a shave quite badly, but I had to admit that the short beard made him look kind of, sexy. What the hell did I just think?!

I tore my eyes away for his face and cleared my throat awkwardly, staring out the window at the plain, boring view.

"Mommy? Where are we?" Ellie asked, swinging her legs in her car seat. I never did ask Harry why he had that child's seat back in his Volvo...

"We're in Texas. Just a few days until we get home baby," I told her, reaching back and patting her leg. "Are you tired?"

She shook her head. "I want to sing frozen again!" She exclaimed excitedly.

I rolled my eyes as I laughed, shooting Harry an apologetic glance as Ellie burst into song. I shudder to think of how the awkward silence would have been between just Harry and I. Although we were making progress with being nice to each other, I can't say that I felt comfortable around him yet.

And the phone calls he always made to someone unknown to me, nagged at my thoughts and I was itching to find out who it was. I knew I was being unnecessarily nosey, but I couldn't help it. Harry was full of secrets, and I intended to figure him out.
