I had always wanted to road trip across the states with my best friends, but after two days on the road with Harry and Ellie, and having had not much fun, it's put me off travelling altogether.

It was around noon and New Mexico was very hot. The high temperature had us all sweating like pigs and we were running out of fluids to drink. Also, Harry's wallet was becoming lighter by the hour and seeing as he had left his credit card in the Volvo, we were extremely limited for money. The only good news was that the brief lingering of my period had left.

I stood in the phone box, staring at the payphone, my fingers shaking as I dialled the number. I held the receiver of the phone close to my ear as I waited for someone to pick up.

"Hello?" I heard a familiar voice ask unsurely. The sound of Noah's voice aroused the butterflies in my stomach as I felt a pang of homesickness.

"Noah, I'm sorry I haven't called. I've just been focusing on getting back as quick as possible," I said quickly, biting my lip in anticipation.

"Clary, oh my God," I heard him breathe a sigh of relief. "I can't believe you just hung up like that last time! Your Mom had been freaking out so bad. Christ, I've been so worried."

"I'm sorry," I apologised in a soft voice. I wondered if he was mad at me. He had to be.

"Baby don't worry, how's Ellie? And you didn't tell me who was taking you home," Noah said and the sound of his voice made my toes curl as I tried to bring the phone closer to my ear, not caring about the germs.

"Ellie's doing fine Noah," I reassured him, carefully avoiding his other question.

"And who's taking you home?" He asked curiously. Shit. Well I could have just told him the truth.. Or..

"Oh just a good girlfriend from high school. Her name is uhh, Daniel," I rushed quickly, thinking on the spot.

"Daniel?" He replied skeptically and I realised I had said a boys name.

"Daniellaaa. You didn't let me finish," I told him, spewing up more bullshit.

"Ok, ok, as long as you get home safe. You need to be here by Friday, the wedding is on Saturday. Ok? I love you," he said, whispering the last part.

"I love you Noah," I said before hanging up, and bursting into tears. I leant against the side of the phone box, knowing that I looked like a complete wreck.

I was still crying when I heard a soft knocking on the window of the box. I looked up in confusion to see Harry, and in his arms, Ellie. Since our talk earlier that morning, Harry had been acting nicely and it was comforting to know that he had begun to like Ellie a little more. He never did seem like a kids person.

I emerged from the phone box after wiping my eyes with the back of my hand quickly.

"Sorry," I mumbled to Harry, not meeting his eyes. He was balancing Ellie on one hip and with his free hand he reached out and rubbed my shoulder. "Don't be," he replied.

I gave him a grateful smile. "Hi baby, are you hungry?" I asked Ellie, who was grinning from ear to ear.

"Nope. Harry give me chocolate cookie," she told me, her eyes glinting with mischief as Harry chuckled.

"You weren't supposed to tell your mum silly!" He jokingly scolded her in a whisper whilst laughing with Ellie, who had her arms around his neck.

I laughed at their ridiculousness, my heart warming at their growing fondnesses for each other.

"Well I for one am starving so I definitely vote that we get some food," I suggested.

Harry agreed and we set out to look for somewhere to have lunch and ended up eating mcdonalds, which I absolutely detested, but I couldn't be picky.

"Can we play on swings?" Ellie asked happily as she swung her legs, cramming fries into her mouth.

I looked at Harry for conformation and watched him shrugged. "The kid might as well have fun," he said.

We walked over to the park after finishing our food and Harry sat on the park bench as I helped Ellie into the swing.

"Harry look sad," Ellie stated, and as I glanced over, I silently agreed with her.

"Yeah," I murmured. "He does."
