The first thing I knew the next morning when I woke up, was the mouth watering scent of coffee brewing that wafted down the hall and into my senses.
The second thing I thought was, "Where the hell am I?" And then it all came flooding back and I grimaced as I thought of everything.
I kissed Harry. I freaking kissed Harry Styles. What the hell was I thinking?!
I felt a sharp pain shoot through the skin of my cheek and I jerked my hand away quickly, as my face had been resting on it. The diamond on my engagement ring had been digging into it and the realisation made my stomach lurch.
I rolled over and buried my head in the pillow again, which smelt of lavender and comfort. I breathed feeling in and out, trying to calm myself down and to mentally prepare myself to see him.
The sickening fact kicked me again and I felt the guilt churn in my stomach and rising in my throat. I dashed to the bathroom, barely having time to lock the door behind me and emptied my guts into the toilet, until there was nothing left.
When I returned to the bedroom, I noticed that Ellie was not in the cot, she must have gotten up for breakfast already. I threw myself back into the bed for '10 more minutes' and curled up inside the duvet. As I thought things over, I decided to swallow down my nerves and get this over and done with.
The quicker I did everything on this trip, the quicker I would get home to Noah and the sooner I would be married, not having to worry about remaining feelings from past relationships resurfacing.. If you know what I'm talking about..
Without even opening my eyes, I felt my feet hit the ground with a thud. I couldn't care less what I looked like, I knew my hair probably looked like a haystack and my face was likely blotchy and drained, but I didn't have the energy to fix myself up.
As expected, Harry was slumped over the kitchen table, flicking through a newspaper and sipping his morning coffee casually. He didn't look up as I entered the room.
Gemma sat across from him, nibbling at a plate of toast while Ellie was perched beside her, happily munching coco pops. Gemma smiled as she noticed my presence and Ellie clapped her hands excitedly.
"Mommy I make my own cereal!" She cried proudly.
I rubbed my eyes tiredly and pulled out the seat across from her, before I realised it was the one beside Harry and I then darted quickly to a different seat. "Wow, that's great baby," I praised her as Gemma placed a plate of pancakes in front of me.
"Eat up. We've got a big day ahead of us," she said cheerfully.
I picked fussily at my breakfast with my fork. Unsurprisingly, I didn't feel hungry, but the smell of the food had begun to make me feel queasy.
"What's wrong Clary? You look funny," Gemma inspected, her eyes narrowing.
I wondered how Gemma seemed to know everything. Maybe she was just extremely observative.
"Just feeling a bit peachy," I told her truthfully.
I stirred my coffee lazily with a teaspoon and tried to keep my eyes occupied on anything but Harry.
"Well, I've made a decision," Gemma announced, gaining my attention and also his as our heads snapped up to look at her in surprise.
"I'm coming with you, back to. North Carolina," she informed us, not even giving us a choice.
"No," Harry said abruptly, staring at her with his harsh, burning gaze.
"There's nothing you can do about it Harry. You need a car and money, and if you're going to be using my things, I'm coming too," she fired back at him.
"Is that the only reason you're going? Or have you suddenly changed your mind about what I told you last night?" Harry asked her coldly, his eyes narrowing.
"Shut your fucking mouth Harry," Gemma replied as I grimaced at her language, glancing at Ellie, who didn't seem to notice anyway.
"I'm coming with you whether you like it or not," Gemma insisted, not backing down.
Harry got up quickly from his seat and pointed his finger at her. "You're not going anywhere Gemma, you're staying right fucking here," he yelled, and if only I could have plucked up the courage to look at him, I would have glared at him for bad language in front of Ellie, although she's most definitely heard his consistent swearing by now anyway.
The tension was thick between the pair of siblings as they stared each other out, both weighing the other up.
"Let her come," I said quietly, taking a sip of my coffee, which burnt my tongue, making me cough and splutter.
They both stared at me in shock. It was the first time all morning Harry had even acknowledged me.
"See Harry? I'm coming whether you like it or not. Sorry bro," she said, laughing meanly as she patted his back before flouncing out of the room.
I was almost convinced that the awkward tension in the air that hung between Harry and I could have choked someone as we sat in silence, finishing our breakfasts.
"Why the fuck did you have to go say something like that for?!" He said, his voice dangerously soft, his head not rising from his plate of nibbled food.
I glanced down at my own table mat and shrugged, unsure of how to answer or act.
"You know I hate her," he stated, and there was no lightness in his voice. I knew he wasn't as scary and tough as he made out to be, but the indirect threat of him making her life hell created a nervous twisting in my stomach, and I was reluctant to look at his face, no matter how flawlessly gorgeous it was.
