(I will be switching to first person for this chapter, just to spice things up)

ANNABETH

Its been a year since he passed. I've pushed away everyone who tried to help. I went to the field where it happened to hopefully get some advice from my mom, but there's nothing.

That is, until I hear a stick crack. Of course, I thought it might be him.

Nope. It's a guy, with messy brown hair and a kind smile. His hair hung a little in his face, but when he came over to wipe some monster dust off my nose, I could tell he was really cute.

He said he couldn't remember anything but his name; Jack.

But then, just as I was deciding whether or not to bring him to camp, he mumbled something about architecture. I have never whipped around so fast.

I asked him what he said, and he told me he said architecture. He just didn't know why.

I decided it was safer to try and bring him in than not. He strolled through easily, no hesitation like most grandchildren and great-grandchildren have. So yes, he is a demigod. But which? We walked past everything, him drinking it in, I was deep in thought. I stopped. He didn't. He bumped into me, and I whipped around angrily. For the first time, I really noticed his eyes. They were a gorgeous sea-green. Just like his. My stomach did a flip-flop. How old am I, fourteen? I scolded it.

He backs up, and I yell at myself internally. You can't scare him away! I hadn't felt this close to someone in months, and I just met him. Jack ran his hands through his hair, in almost a habitual way.

Then Drew walked up, and I knew this tentative friendship was over. She would use her charmspeak, he would fall under her spell, etc, etc. I gave her a glare, and she rolled her eyes at me.

Jack started to say something, but Drew interrupted him.

"Don't you want to go somewhere else, with me? Hm? Let's leave this Annabeth girl, we can go have fun," she poured a lot of charm into her words. I was almost convinced to go with her myself.

I saw Jack relax, and Drew grabbed his hand, starting to lead him away from me, giving me a smug smile, when Jack suddenly came to his senses. He shook his hand out of Drew's.

"Quit it. Seriously, what the heck are you doing?" Jack sounds angry, not at all calm like what Drew's charmspeak usually does to guys.

"Who the hell have you brought in with you now, Chase?" Drew looks surprised, and she sneers at me.

"Someone who knows how to handle you, obviously." I grab his arm and march over to the side of one of the cabins. Jack looks confused.

I turn back to him, "how did you do that?"

"Do what?" he asked, his eyes flitting down, then back up.

"Resist her charmspeak." I bit my lip. "Even Percy couldn't-" I realized my mistake. Talking about him was one of my rules.
