When I wake up again, I find myself on a cold stone floor, arms and feet shackled.
I try to lift up my head to see the rest of my surroundings, but my head violently spins. A couple seconds later, I vomit all over the floor.
My body feels like I've gone through hell and back, to back again.
I collapse on the ground and try to process what happened last night.
As the memories of last night's events come back to me, I end up vomiting again. Then with what little energy I have left, I hold out my hand and summon Alexi.
A few moments later, his lucid body appears in front of me.
"Dammit Harper, where in Nebula's name did you drag me off to . . ."
His voice trails off as his eyes land on me. As soon as my eyes meet his, the tears I've been holding back start to fall.
"Oh my moons, Harps. What happened to you?"
"Th-they f-found us," I blubber.
"They? Oh goddess, you don't mean . . ."
I gulp before nodding and whispering, "The werewolves found us."
"What? How?"
"O-one of th-them found out where - where we were h-hidden. It's all my f-fault!" I sob.
"Oh Harper, I'm sure it's not entirely your fault. Now, where's Neri?"
"She's gone," I whisper.
"She's gone? What do you mean she's gone? Did she already escape?"
"N-no. She d-didn't escape. Alexi, she's - she's . . . she's d-dead."
Alexi claps a hand over his mouth. "Oh goddess, oh no. Oh honey, come here."
And although I can't feel his embrace, Alexi's presence comforts me as I crumple into a heap of sobs.
But it doesn't last long.
The door to my cell swings open so hard, it hits the wall with a bang.
About a dozen Kappas pour into the room and surround Alexi and I with weapons, all pointed at Alexi.
"Put your hands up in the air," one of them orders, "and you will not be harmed."
My body starts to shake as I realize he's the one who killed Neri.
Alexi snickers. "Harps, do they know I'm a-"
"Alexi, please," I hiss in a low tone, my limbs shaking more violently than ever. "Put your hands up."
Alexi moves away from me and puts his hands up.
"Identify yourself," Neri's killer demands.
Alexi glances down at me and I avert my eyes. "I'm Alexi Abano."
The man continues to stare at Alexi, as if he's expecting him to say something else.
After a couple moments of silence the man speaks. "So you're a rogue, then. Chain him up and bring him in for questioning as well."
As soon as one of the Kappas makes a move towards Alexi, I open my palm and summon him back.
When Alexi suddenly disappears, the lead Kappa rounds on me.
He grabs a chunk of my hair and yanks it back so I'm looking up at him. "Where did he go?" the man snarls.
"I sent him back," I hiss.
