TWO MONTHS LATER
"How are you feeling?" Aurabella asks as she leans over me.
"Like hell," I reply as I put my feet on the couch's armrest. "These cramps are killing me."
"Damn. Want me to get Calix over here?"
"Aura, that's the last thing I want. He's going to go into daddy mode and freak out and I really don't need that right now."
"Want me to get you anything?"
"You can get me off the couch. I have to use the bathroom."
Aura snickers and shakes her head as she grabs both of my forearms and pulls me up.
I walk over to the bathroom, but almost as soon as I put my hand on the doorknob, a liquid trails down my leg.
I groan. "You've got to be shitting me."
"What happened?" Aurabella calls.
"I just pissed myself!"
She's by my side in a flash, a concerned look on her face.
"What?" I ask. "Help me clean this up."
"Girl, that isn't pee."
"What?"
"Your water just broke."
A couple minutes later, I'm in the hospital ward with Doctor Allen by my side.
"I don't understand!" I protest. "I wasn't due for another two and a half weeks!"
"You're pregnant with twins, so it isn't a surprise that you're giving birth a bit earlier than expected," Doctor Allen says as he slides gloves on his hands.
"There's another reason," Aurabella says as she come in the room with Cynthia.
"Oh really?" I ask. I wince as another contraction occurs.
"Yeah. Sirens can only be born during a full moon."
"You didn't think to tell me this sooner?" I hiss.
"I thought you already knew. You lived with Nerissa for so long that I thought she might have told you."
"Fuck you," I hiss as another contraction appears.
The door bangs open and Calix rushes in.
"Harper, are you okay?" he asks.
"And fuck you too!" I shriek. "You're the one who got me pregnant!"
Calix blinks and steps back.
"How much pain are you in right now?" Aura asks.
"It hurts like hell," I hiss.
She sighs and says, "Well that sucks, because according to the moon cycle, you're going to be in labor for another twenty hours."
"You've got to be shitting me!"
"We could do a c-section," Doctor Allen suggests.
"I am not having my stomach cut open!" I shriek.
"Okay," he mutters. "Twenty hours of labor it is."
True to Aurabella's word, I'm still in labor ninteen hours later.
"Come on Harper," Calix urges. "Push a bit more!"
