*This just in, reports of explosions from a research facility located in Nevada at the renown Area 51. Locals are shaken as the conspiracies revolving around the incident trend all over social media...*
The news lady goes on about the latest fake news that they could come up with, but I ignore whatever else she has to say. It's really sad honestly, I can't imagine working for a job that can become so desperate that they have to grasp for straws to stay relevant. I turn off the television and go to the kitchen to eat my breakfast.
"Can you believe the things people are saying about this!?" I hear my mom say from the pantry as she grabs her coffee grind and phone in the other hand as she scrolls through twitter.
"Yeah mom, It's like all over the news too." I took a bite of the breakfast sandwich my mom made for me.
"Look at this, 'funky underscore panda' is saying that he saw an alien in his backyard...then there are these blue letters after, something about probing?" She shows me her phone screen.
"First of all mom, that is a hashtag and second..ew!" I shove her phone away in disgust after seeing what she meant with the probing hashtag.
I hear my phone ring so I pick up and answer it.
"Hey...I'm outside!"
"Mom, that's him. It's time to go." I quickly try to finish eating my breakfast sandwich.
She looks at me teary eyed and extends her arms as she pulls me into a tight hug.
"Mmm, my baby girl has grown up." she sniffles.
"I'm not a baby mom!"
"No matter how old you get you will always be my baby" She hugs me tighter. "You call me when you get there and tell Zahaire to drive safely, It's a long drive you know."
"We'll be safe mom, gosh you think after I made it to college you'd stop being so-"
"Motherly, and it will never stop until the day I die...even then, I'll haunt you!" She scowls then kisses me on the forehead. I tell her I love her and she does the same.
I go and grab my things and load them into the trunk of Zahaire's car. Once I am done I hop in the passenger's seat. He is playing ROYL by Chloe x Halle and I smile at his cornyness.
"Really, ROYL?" I chuckle.
"I figured it was perfect for the occasion, with us beginning a new chapter and all." He flashes a cheesy smile.
We trade looks then we both inevitably start singing along as we drive off to our new start full of unpredictable and exciting memories to come.
