"So you're doing it tonight?" Charles whispers to his father, them both watching Alice clean the dishes from the living room.
"Yeah, everything is going to be set up. I'm taking her to her favourite restaurant and then we're going to head over to sweet water river." FP responds in a hushed tone.
"She's going to be ecstatic!"
"Who is?" Alice curiously asks, making her way into the living room.
"Uh-I-uh- Betty! Betty is going to-to be ecstatic." Charles rambles nervously.
"Why?" Alice furrows her brows.
"Well... I-uh-"
"Charles said he has some great cases for Betty to help him with." FP lies with a smile, patting his son on the back.
"Yes, that is what she will be so happy about." Charles nods.
"Okay then..." Alice shrugs, giving up on their weird behaviour. "I am beat, I just want to lay down and read my book." She sighs, sitting down on the couch.
"Actually Al, I have some dinner reservations for us in a few hours." He cheekily smiles.
"What's the occasion?" She asks him with a grin.
"Just wanted to do something special for my girl." He leans down, brushing his lips against hers.
"That's sweet, I guess I'll go get ready." She smiles at them both before making her way up the stairs.
"Sorry dad."
"It's okay, son." Fp chuckles.
"Well I better get going! Tell me how it all goes." He hugs FP.
"I will, thank you." Fp gives him a smile, watching him leave.
He was going to propose to Alice tonight, took him long enough.
-
"Hi, Jones, party of two." Fp tells them.
"Mr. Jones, I'm so sorry it looks like one of my waitresses gave away your table." She apologizes.
"What? But we're right on time."
"I know, I apologize. If you'd like to wait, we could get you a table." She suggests.
"How long would the wait be?" He asks her.
"45 minutes to an hour."
He looks to Alice who shakes her head no, feeling incredibly guilty as he watched her face drop.
"No that's alright thank you." He gives her a sad smile before taking Alice's hand and walking out of there.
"I'm sorry Al." He sighs.
"It's okay-"
"No it's not, you got all dressed up and now we can't even go to your favourite restaurant." He shakes his head.
She stops them and turns to face him. "FP, it's okay, we can go some other time. This wasn't your fault, okay honey?" She gives him a reassuring smile.
"I just wanted tonight to be perfect."
"And it is, because I'm with you." She caresses his cheek.
He smiles at her, pulling her in for a kiss.
"Well, I'm guessing you're starving and the best I could do is Pops, so what do you say?" He asks her.
"I would love to." She grins taking his hand in her own and walks towards his truck.
