For as long as I can remember, I was alone. I came from a family that lives very comfortably from the amount of money both of my parents bring home. Unfortunately, this means that they were too busy to spend time with me. It was rare for me to spend any time with them anymore. Don't get me wrong, I know they love me, but with their constant absence, I can't say that just their love is enough for me.
That's when I searched for the company of other kids around the neighborhood and my school. I desperately wanted to fit in so I can have at least one friend. It got to the point where my desperation led me to... Well, let's say that I was playing 'pretend'. I became the type of person other people would want in a friend. Be super nice, flatter them, tell them what they want to hear, like what they like, and give them what they want. The list would go on and on, just so I can get a person to like me.
But I was never satisfied...
I never liked the 'friends' I had. They only seemed to care about themselves and the way I act. If I were to, for once, have a different opinion, they would throw a fit. And they were just soooooo... boring, sometimes they were even annoying. But I learned something! I learned that if you were to play nice for them, they may owe you favors, or they would like you enough to give you something valuable. Whether it be an item or some information that could be useful to me, or have them do something for me. Not only that, but if someone sees you misbehave, no one would believe them. Because a person so sweet and angelic could never do something bad, right? If you play nice, you may be rewarded.
Everyone was the same, and I don't truly want to be friends with any one of them... except for him... I wasn't the only one 'playing pretend' with other students. There was one boy in my class, and that smile on his face looked so fake, I could see no emotion. He would laugh, talk, and smile with his so called 'friends', but I knew the truth. How? Well, if your someone who wears a kind smiling mask with ease, and easily tell lies as if they were truths, you would most likely be able to spot a lie as if it was child's play. Professional liars know a lie when they see one.
Interesting... How interesting he is...
So I approached him, and that's when it all started. That boy's name was Ayato Aishi.
...
How did we become friends? We both caught each other by surprise. When I called him out when he was alone, he was momentarily caught by surprise before his expression turned emotionless. Never have I seen someone so emotionless before. Finally someone interesting! Because of that, I decided to offer him my friendship. What surprised me was not him declining, but him saying that he had nothing to offer. That's when I knew that I wasn't the only one who saw through him, but he saw through me as well. He just walked away after that, and he never told anyone about me being fake. This boy... H-he's............................................. Oh. so. interesting.~
After that I was determined to be his friend and would often follow him. He even seemed curious as to why I'm following him. He assumed I would leave him alone after our encounter, but it did just the opposite. It continued like this for a few days, and he already seemed used to it, like me following him around was normal. At some point we ended up talking again.
...
"Why are you following me?" He suddenly turns around to face me with his usual straight face.
My smile just grew, but there was something about my smile that seemed genuine for once. "You're interesting!" That wasn't a lie and he could tell, which caught him off guard. For the first time, he started to show a tiny bit of emotion. It was barely there, but it WAS there.
He looked to the side, there was a slight trace of him looking unsure. "Really? You think I'm interesting?" I rapidly nodded my head. He turned back to face me with empty eyes. "But why me? Wouldn't I be boring with how I am?"
