Chapter 15: Fear is Relative

John's POV:

I was on my way to Vaughn's office. It was the day after the tournament. I still couldn't stop thinking about the look in Myu's face. When I came in she ran up and hugged me and Sera. She was the happiest I've seen her. Remi said she didn't move her eyes from the TV. She really cared about us which was sweet.

I entered the office and immediately noticed the trophy. It was about half the size of me which was kinda big. I looked back over to Vaughn who was staring out the window as usual. "You called Sir?" I immediately regretted how posh I had just been. "Please John, call me Vaughn" he replied weirded out by my sudden change in manner.

"Okay thanks Vaughn" I smiled back taking a seat across from him. "So John as your aware you have reached what we thought was the final stage however I want to continue my research with you. Your results came back and your level has gone up tenfold since you reached stage two.

I took a sheet of paper that Vaughn handed me and read it.

Attack level: 280

Defense level: 120

"Wow they really did increase tenfold".

I examined my way around the paper to see if I could notice anything else interesting. Before I could Vaughn started pointing things out.

"This detailed report st the bottom estimates where you will be at. If you decide you want to then you are most likely going to become the King of Nightmares".

I knew I'd have to think about that as well. I had a lot of responsibilities already. Being at the top would just make things harder for me. "I'd have to think about it Vaughn" I muttered.

"Ofcourse John take your time" he smiled back. "One more thing John, we are entering another tournament and its each state competing. Because it isn't a school tournament you can use anyone however the government want you".

Ny eyes widened immediately. The govern want me? There's no way I'm the best choice in the country. Guess I'll have to think about that as well. "I'll have to consider that too Vaughn" I replied. He nodded "let me know by next week John the tournament is on the weekend".

I made my way out the office and bumped into Remi. "Hey John! It's my birthday this weekend and I wanted to know of you'd like to come and hang out with me and everyone else" Remi said shyly.

"I have Myu but apart from that I'm sure it will be fine. Is she okay to come along?" I didn't wanna ruin her night as I had no idea what she had planned. "Sure were only going to dinner and then back to mine, I'm never a huge celebrator anyway".

I was up for it to be honest, I was waiting for a break. I was tired and a party would seriously help. "Sure Rem I'd love to!" I said excitedly. I was genuinely looking forward to it to be honest. "I'll let Sera know" I smiled.

She waved at me and walked off.

Seraphina's POV:

I was walking down the hall to the roof. I began making my way up onto the roof and then sat down in my usual spot. I lowered my head and began playing on my phone. A few minutes later I heard the door open. Unsurprisingly it was John. He waddled over to me and planted a kiss on my head. He then took a seat next to me and so I put my phone down to talk with him.

To most people I just played on my phone and ignored everything around me. I was quite cynical. Nothing worth a second look. Well I used to be like that until I met John. Now I pay attention and admire the little things. "Hey John" I smiled at him. I was met with a "Hi Sera, you okay?". I just smiled and nodded.

"Vaughn wants me to enter another tournament...its the countries pick, I wanted to get your opinion is that okay". I gave him my full attention now and faced him. I raised an eyebrow and asked him the situation, "what's the deal with the tournament then?"
