Being on tour is one of Joe’s favorite activities. Standing in front of a screaming crowd every night, receiving rounds of applause that last forever, seeing the adoring fans’ faces shining up at him…nothing was better. Well, there was maybe one thing that was at least comparable to it. It was just as good in different ways. The only thing that could possibly be better than tour would be Chloe, gazing at him just like those adoring fans, enjoying the pure happiness that exuded from him while he performed, and seeing her shining eyes linger on his face with a smile on her own. It seemed to Joe like he was an incredibly lucky guy to be receiving both of those favorites tonight.
After nearly a month of separation, Joe and Chloe had finally been reunited. Chloe finally received the “okay” from her parents to travel the country with her boyfriend and brothers for a week. She was going to have a ton of homework to finish and she suspected her parents weren’t all too happy about the arrangement, but Chloe was simply happy to see Joe again. And Joe couldn’t be happier to have her back, even for such a short time.
That night at the concert, the crowd was just the same as ever, and everything was running perfectly smoothly, besides for the fact that Joe couldn’t stop himself from constantly looking over to the side of the stage, where Chloe was standing out of sight of the audience. The audience may not have been able to see her, but Joe could see her so easily, and it was literally impossible for him to keep from glancing over from time to time. Every night prior to this one Chloe had enjoyed herself immensely backstage, and tonight seemed no different. After all, she had been a Jonas Brothers fan long before they met, and wouldn’t it be a fan’s dream to be backstage at a Jonas Brothers concert, much less five concerts in a row? Joe thought that must be heaven for any sort of fan.
When the band left the stage after their set, Joe immediately went to Chloe’s side. She had that small smile on her face, when she genuinely said, “You sounded fabulous.”
Joe smirked and brushed some of his sweaty hair out of his eyes. “Thanks.” He pulled Chloe close and pressed a kiss to her forehead. Then he wrapped an arm around her waist, and they retreated along with his brothers and their crew to their room to wait until they were invited out onto the stage with Miley.
Once in the room, everyone went to their respective places. Kevin plopped himself on the couch and grabbed his laptop off the floor. He often checked up on emails and such during this time, or talked with Danielle on the phone. Nick stood with his arms crossed behind his back, eyes fixated on the TV screen on the wall, the one that showed what was happening onstage. He was always like this; Miley was the only thing he was able to think about lately, probably because he was losing her again.
That left Joe and Chloe to grab some food that had been set out and sit at the table off in the corner. They sat in silence at first and ate their fruit and veggies. It was actually sort of ironic because the food was set out per the insistence of Mrs. Jonas, and the “fact” that the boys needed an energy boost in between sets, yet Chloe was the one who munched on the apples and celery the most. Her ways were rubbing off on Joe, though, and he often ate a snack with her at these times.
The past few days had been a blur of events and miles on the road. Neither Joe nor Chloe had really known what to expect for their reunion, but everything had been surprisingly easy. That was the word to describe everything between them now: ease. How that happened, neither had any idea. Both suspected that part of it was the fact that the month-long break between them had enabled them both to clear their heads and come back to each other with open arms. The other part being that, as much as neither wanted to think it or accept it or talk about it, they both knew goodbye was coming soon. Whether that was a goodbye just for the rest of the tour or a real, final goodbye, they didn’t know. But with a limited time left together, they wanted to just be happy. Because as much bad had happened and as many hard feelings had developed and as much as they changed and yelled and disliked each other at some points, they still loved each other.
