After riding around town, Adam got the hang of riding a hoverboard. Now Adam and Jared were racing each other down Mineral Springs Road towards their house. While they raced each other, Adam would get used to Jared as a friend but not a brother.
"Catch me if you can!" Jared yelled as he rushed by Adam.
A smile spread across Adam's face as he pushed off of the ground and he went faster. He saw Jared up ahead and he eventually caught up to him when he was near yard. Adam smiled and he tackled Jared into his yard.
The two teens were laughing as they started wrestling with each other. When they got tired, they stood up, grabbed their boards which turned back into skateboards, and they went inside to find Adam's mom, Joan, sitting at the table bawling with AnnMarie beside her.
"Adam daddy's gone!" AnnMarie exclaimed as she ran to him.
Adam picked up his sister and he rubbed her back.
"I know, sis. I saw it happen," he said.
Joan suddenly stopped crying and she looked at the two boys.
"Jared you're back!" She said happily as she jumped up from the chair and she hugged him.
"Hey mom," Jared replied.
Adam stared at his mom and she hugged Jared.
"Um he says I'm his brother and he said something about dad-,"
"Shh. Not here," his mom said while Adam set his sister down, "Hey AnnMarie, why don't you go up to your room to play. I need to talk to Adam and his brother alone."
"Okay!" Ann said.
Then she ran upstairs and Adam looked at his mom for answers.
She led them to the basement which was his dad's recording studio for music and they sat down in chairs. Adam's mom sighed heavily then she said,
"Adam. Jared is your twin brother even though you look nothing alike. Jared took on your dads genes while you got mine. Anyways. You two were separated at birth because of the agency-"
"What agency?" Adam asked.
His mom glared at him and she continued,
"The agency which your dad built when he was your age. And he named it Owl City. It takes teens and adults and they train them to become agents. Anyways. The law your father made up was if a wife of someone working at the agency has twins, she needs to give the strongest one to them. Which is Jared."
Adam was frowning. All of those years his mother had told him he was a strong and brave kid but it turned out it was a lie.
"S-so you're saying I'm weak, mom?" Adam asked softly
She reached over and she held Adam's hand.
"No. You're strong too. What I meant to say that you both were strong enough to go and train but your father and I knew it would be dangerous. But now that you're older, Adam, you can become an agent if you want to."
Adam let that sink in. He now liked Jared as a brother. Adam also realized if he became an agent and became different, he wouldn't get picked on at school anymore and people would respect him. Adam looked at his brother. Jared smiled at him and Adam asked with a smile on his face,
"Where do I sign up to become an agent?"
