Amara pulled apart from the kiss. She looked up at John, taking in what just happened. She quickly turned around and as she did she felt a sharp pain from her wound and fell back, wincing in pain. John quickly went to comfort her and helped her lay back on the cot.

"You alright?" John asked, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Just fine." Amara answered, adjusting herself in the cot.

John cleared his throat and sat on the edge of the cot. "So.. About what happened.."

Amara shook her head. "Nothing can happen, John." She spoke with a cold tone, trying to hide the disappoint in her voice.

"So that's just it? You're gonna pretend that there's nothin' between us." John scoffed, standing up from the cot.

"I'm sorry." Amara turned away from him and began fiddling with the ring on her finger.

"I'm a fool." He sighed and stormed out of the tent.

Maisie immediately walked in after John left, a worried look on her face. "Are you alright?" She looked at her sister, feeling a wave of relief.

"Physically, yes." Amara chuckled, watching as Maisie sat on the edge of the cot.

"What's that mean?" She asked, furrowing her brows and wiping some dirt from her dress.

Amara sighed. "John, he kissed me. And I told him nothing can happen." Amara looked away from Maisie and to the opening of the tent, getting a glimpse of camp, John was sitting at the edge, his legs hanging over the ledge.

"Amara," Maisie looked over at her sister. "You're an idiot if you don't take this chance with him. I know deep down you like him."

Maisie was right, and Amara knew it. But, she couldn't start anything with him. It would only end in her getting hurt, in both of them getting hurt.

"Get me a beer, please." Amara demanded, turning away from Maisie.

"Amara listen to me! I don't care what mother and father said, you should be happy-"

Amara cut Maisie off and said, "If I don't marry Desmond you can't be with Sean! I'm doing it for you, our family!" She shouted, catching attention of some of the people in the camp.

"Amara all I want is your happiness." Maisie looked down with a frown, shuffling in her spot.

"You being happy makes me happy, so go with that Irish bastard and let me handle my problems."

Maisie only nodded and walked out of the tent, Amara was left alone for a bit so she decided to read some of her book. It was pretty good so far, although the plot of it was still a bit unknown.
