Amara walked inside the house and her mother, father, and Desmond, were standing right in front of her. Desmond had his hands behind his back and her mother had that same cold look in her eyes. Her father just stood there with a blank expression.
Amara stepped towards them and raised a brow. "Is something wrong?" She asked.
"Amara," Desmond began, taking a step towards the woman. "I have something to ask you."
Amara looked up at the man and fear struck in her as he said those words. She had an idea of what he had to ask and greatly feared it.
Desmond took a step away from her and got down on one knee and took a ring out from his pocket, three small diamonds on a gold band.
"Marry me?" The man asked, looking up at her with a hopeful look.
Amara looked to her mother and father. Her mother gave her a threatening look and her father only looked away and to the ground. She looked back to Desmond and slightly shook her head.
"Amara.." Mrs. Findlay growled.
Amara put her hand to her head and felt her heart drop. There's no getting out of this one, no excuses, no choice.
Mrs. Findlay walked towards Amara and whispered in her ear, "Do it for your family." With that, she took her place back next to her husband.
"Well?" Desmond looked up to Amara, the ring still being held out to her.
Amara swallowed all her stubbornness, she wiped away what she wanted and only thought of what she was told to do, what she had to do for her sisters happiness and for her family. She wiped away what she felt for John and what he felt for her.
"Yes." The word rolled off her tongue like poison.
"Splendid!" Her mother exclaimed.
Desmond smiled and got up from the floor and slid the ring on Amaras finger. Amara looked down at the ring with slight disgust, what had she done.
"How about we—"
Amara cut Desmond off and said, "I have to speak with Maisie."
Amara rushed up the stairs and burst into Maisies room. Maisie sat up from her bed and looked at her sister with concern.
"What happened?" Maisie asked, rushing to Amara.
"Desmond asked me to marry him." Amara breathed out, pacing around the room.
"And you said no, right?" Maisie asked.
Amara stopped pacing around and looked at her sister with a guilty expression. She raised her hand slightly to show the ring on her finger.
