"Wait, really?" Maisie questioned with a astonished tone. "You're serious?"
"Couldn't be more serious," Amara shook her head, glancing over at the camp. The whole gang was crowded around the campfire, singing together, having a good time.
It seemed they were always smiling when they were together. Even Miss Grimshaw, who seemed like the last person Amara would see having a cold one and singing along with the others, was there, doing just that.
She wanted to have that feeling, of being around people she loves and having fun. Although Amara was around her parents often, they weren't really smiling. More yelling and arguing.
It was different when she and Maisie were younger, but now their parents are like strangers.
"Do you want to tell Dutch or will I?" Maisie asked, seeming to get impatient. Her blue eyes flickered as she stared at the flames of the fire.
"I will," Amara insisted before pulling herself across the camp and to Dutch's tent, which was right in the middle.
Amara stopped in front of the closed tent. She was going to say something to try to catch Dutch's attention from inside the tent, but as she opened her mouth, Dutch's head popped out from behind the fabric. Once he took in that Amara wanted to speak, he stepped out and stood in front of her.
Amara swallowed and took a deep breath before looking up at the gang leader. He looked back her with confusion in his brown eyes.
"Maisie and I have chosen to stay with your gang, if you'll have us." Hosea and Micah were now stood at the sides of Dutch and staring down at the young woman. Hosea had thrill in his eyes while Micah seemed like he dreaded every word that poured out of Amaras mouth.
Dutch looked at the two men with a contemplative expression before looking back at Amara.
Amara thought that he'd reject her and then send them on their way. From the looks of it, that was the answer she was getting. She balled her fist and prepared for the response.
Dutch's mouth curved into a smile and he held his arms out. "Welcome to my gang, Miss Findlay." The man shouted and caught the attention of everyone in camp. They all rushed over, confusion clear on their faces. "Maisie and Amara will be joining our gang, for however long they wish to!" The leader announced, stepping down from the platform and draping his arm over Amaras shoulder.
"But Dutch—"
Dutch cut Micah off by sending him a warning glance before leading Amara over to the campfire, everyone following behind.
Maisie was already sat with Sean, the couple holding each other lovingly.
"You can let her go Sean, she's not going anywhere any time soon." Dutch chuckled, removing his arm from Amaras shoulder and sitting down on the log.
Maisie raised a brow towards Amara. She got up and made her way over to her older sister. "Did he say yes?" The woman asked.
"Yeah," Amara answered. Maisie wrapped her arms tightly around her sister and smiled.
"Thank you," She said before going back to sitting with Sean.
Everyone had drinks in their hands. Javier was playing a tune on his guitar while Miss Grimshaw and a few others sang to it. At a wooden table, Uncle ranted to Arthur about who knows what.
Amara glanced over at Sean and Maisie. The huge smile on her sisters face filled her with joy. A warm feeling was felt in her heart as Sean stared lovingly at Maisie. Maisie's loved, and that's all Amara could ask for.
