“So remember that I have to work tonight and you need to watch Jasmine.”

“Yeah I know, you’ve only told me a million times,” Reese said while staring out the rainy car window. After they had dropped Jasmine off at school things had turned very awkward inside the car.

“I just want to make sure you remember. Tonight is a big deal for me-”

Not bothering to listen to another word his father said, he quickly opened the moving car door while hearing, “Reese! What are you doing?”

Ignoring his father’s angry voice, he jogged after the figure he had seen from his window. Running into the deserted hallways he followed the wet footprints into the men’s bathroom. Slowly opening the door he saw Zaki staring at himself in the mirror, a big bandage on the back of his neck. “Hey,” Reese quietly said while slowly closing the door.

Zaki’s dark eyes looked up at him in the mirror, looking like he hadn’t slept in weeks. “What happened to your neck?”

        “Nothing.”

Taking a closer look at the bandage Reese asked, “Did you get another butterfly tattoo?” When those eyes were suddenly looking at him with fear he said, “Not that I was stalking you or anything, I noticed your tattoos the first day I was here.”

Zaki continued to look into his eyes for a few seconds before he started to wash his hands. “Do you want to come over to my house tonight?” Reese hesitantly asked while rubbing the back of his neck.

“Why are you asking me that?” Zaki asked while using a couple paper towels to dry his hands.

        “Because that’s what friends do.”

        “We’re not friends.”

Sighing Reese leaned back against the wall, realizing this was going to be more difficult than he ever imagined. “I’d like to become your friend.”

        “No you don’t.”

        “Yes I do.”

        “No, you don’t.”

Looking into those dark eyes Reese saw the annoyed look but he also saw fear. What if Zaki didn’t know how to have a friend, what if he didn’t know what to do? “Yes, I do. I want to be your friend Zaki. I’m not like the other guys who you’ve gone to school with for a long time. I want to get to know you, that’s what friends do you know.” When he still remained silent Reese took a scrap piece of paper out of his bag and scribbled his address down.

“If you change your mind,” he said while handing the paper out towards Zaki, who didn’t move to take it but simply stared at it. Giving a small smile Reese left it on the sink before turning around to leave. A full blown smile spread onto his face when he saw Zaki take the paper from the corner of his eye while leaving the room.

“I want to watch My Little Pony!”

“Come on Jasmine, you’ve already seen that a million times.”

“I want to watch it!” She said while stomping her little foot onto the ground.

Reese couldn’t help but smile at her; she was just too darn cute. She was stubborn as hell but also adorable. “Fine,” he said while watching her instantly clap her little hands together. After putting the DVD into the player he flopped down onto the couch, starting to think that Zaki wasn’t going to show up.
