I sit down at my desk, feeling guilty about Spencer. I shouldn't be, I didn't do anything wrong, but I hurt him. I apologized, and Spencer said he was fine, but something's still off.
I notice myself staring at my desk, and adjust my posture, looking somewhere else.
"What's on your mind, Y/N?" Derek asks and I see Spencer walk in.
"Nothing, Morgan. Stressed out at the moment," I kind of lie and Derek nods, accepting the excuse.
I look at Spencer and he notices. He smiles at me and I smile back.
I look at Hotch's office and realize the lights are off and the door is closed.
"Hey, where's Hotch?" I ask, and the team looks up at Hotch's office as well.
"Huh, that's weird, he's never late," Emily points out.
"No, duh, Sherlock," Derek says and Emily glares at him.
"Maybe, Strauss sent him to do something. That's my guess," J.J. says and Reid agrees.
"Maybe he took a sick day?" I question.
"From my understanding, Hotch does not get sick," Emily says.
"You're right. He isn't sick, Jack is," Rossi says, walking down to the bullpen, "And Jessica had to go out of town for work."
I felt my jealousy begin to rise.
"Is Jessica Jack's mom?" I ask.
"Uh, no. Jack's mom, Haley, isn't alive anymore," Rossi says.
My jealousy immediatly goes away and I feel guilt, "Oh."
"Jessica is Haley's sister. She helps Hotch with Jack when he's away for work," Rossi finishes.
"Is it okay to ask what happened?" I ask, not trying to pry.
"As long as you don't mention we-" Rossi gets cut off.
"You, Rossi. You told her," Emily says.
"Fine, that I told you," Rossi states.
"Is it that bad?" I ask and everyone looks at each other.
"Haley was shot by an unsub we've been chasing for a while, George Foyet," Rossi sadly says.
That name sounds familiar, I think to myself.
"Better known as The Reaper," Rossi answers my thoughts.
"Holy-" I stop myself.
"Sorry. The Boston Reaper?" I ask.
"Yes. He used his manipulation on Hotch and risked Jack's life in the process. Aaron was able to stop him before he got to Jack," Rossi said.
"He manipulated anyone he could," Derek says angry.
"Wow," I say, still shocked, "I thought was a car crash or something."
"Is Hotch okay?" I ask.
"Yeah, it's been awhile since Foyet and his family is safe and happy," Rossi explains.
Rossi gets what he came down here for and I turn to Spencer.
"Reid, I don't think I should talk to Hotch today," I say.
"Is it about Haley?"
"No, not exactly," I lie, "Mainly because him never being late for work and the day I'm going to talk to him, he doesn't even show up. A little coincedental, don't you think."
"There's always tomorrow, I guess," He smiles.
"Ugh, I hate talks. They're the worst," I whisper to myself, leaning back in my chair.
I pull out some of my paperwork and begin working. The day goes by slow.
I look up, finishing my work, and glance up to find empty desks except for Emily who just stares at me.
"Where did everyone go?" I ask and Emily smiles.
"They went home. They finished their work," Emily says.
I check my watch and it says 7:34.
"Jeez. Why are you here?" I say, gathering my work.
"Waiting on you. Wondering why you're taking longer than you usually would," Emily says and stands up.
"My hangover doesn't help me work, Em. Also, I didn'trealize I was taking longer than I normally would," I laugh, "You didn't have to wait on me."
"I know. But that's what friends are for," Emily smiles.
I smile and get my stuff situated. Emily and I get to the elevator and I press the down button.
I break the silence saying, "So, are you into Hotch?"
"What?" She asks, confused.
"You know, you asked if I would mind you liking Hotch. Do you?" I ask.
Realization hits her and she chuckles.
"Nah, I was just messing with you," Emily smiles and we step into the elevator.
"I don't even like men," Emily laughs.
"Wow, I would've never guessed," I say looking at her shocked.
"Good, I guess," Emily says and I laugh.
We say our goodbyes and I head home, mentally preparing my speech for Hotch.
