The New Girl

chapter 21

Lucy's pov

We were walking for about another hour, when suddenly I felt Toni stop, I turn to look at her, I noticed her face had turned white, "hey Toni are you okay?" I ask but it seemed as if she could not hear me, it happened so quickly her body fell to the floor, "Toni oh my god..." I kneel next to her, I look up from her panic is starting to rush over, I look around and see people walking "help... someone please!" I shout as I see a couple run over, one starts tapping their phone and putting it to their ear, "what's her name?" she asks me, I watch as man rushes to her other side and he starts to lay her on her side, "hey, he's a doctor, what's her name?" I looked to the women who was talking to me, tears started to form at my eyes, "her... erm name is Toni" I said with a lump in my throat, "she's a type 1 diabetic" I say, trying not to freak out, that my girlfriend was laying on the floor lifeless, when I start to hear an ambulance in the distance, I feel the lady wrap her arm around me to try and sooth me, from what was happening "she's going to be okay, is she your girlfriend?" the lady asked, I looked up to her and nodded, "erm I need her phone" I say as I reach for her pocket, getting her phone out of her pocket.

I unlocked the phone, I saw her sisters' number first and clicked on it and it starts ringing, "hey Tricia, its erm me Lucy..." I say through my tears, I swallow a lump and continue, "Toni's collapsed, and we have an ambulance on its way, I think you guys should come..." I say with tears rushing down my cheeks, "oh my god, Lucy are you okay?" I hear her say, and hear a muffle sound in the back ground I also hear her talking to her mum about what I just said, "erm not really, I'm with her and a couple who are helping me, I don't know what to do?" I say as the tears just fall, "hey Lucy it's going to be fine, is the ambulance there yet?" I look around and see two men run over with bags and in green overalls, "they just got here" I say to her, I look to the men, one had his hand to her wrist the other started to open his bag, he started pulling out load of different things, "okay Lucy that's good, could you pass me over to one of them please" I walk over to the man at the bag, "hey I was with her and I have her sister on the phone she wants to talk to you" I say passing the phone over to the man, he takes it and walks over a bit.

I kneel on the floor next to Toni on the other side, "hi miss my names Graham, her names Toni right" he asks me and I nod my head, " she's a type 1 diabetic" I say he looks to me curiously, he starts to pull out certain equipment, it all looked so weird, I feel arms wrap around my shoulder, and I see that it was the lady who helped call for the ambulance, her and her husband hadn't left yet, she gives my hand a squeeze for reassurance, as Toni still hadn't woken up, the man who took her phone walks back over to me and hands it to me, he walks off to the other man and tells him what I'm guessing Tricia had told him, I see them nod between each other when the man walks away back to the ambulance, I look back to Toni not taking my eyes of her, the man had put a cannula in her hand, and stuck something to her finger as the other man came back with the bed and the stretcher, he places one side on her left and the other on the right rolling her on each side so they could get the stretcher underneath her, once it was underneath her they lifted her and placed her on the bed so they could get her out from the beach, I picked her bag up and followed them to the ambulance.

I say thank you to the couple who stayed with us, I didn't catch their names when the ambulance doors shut and we was off, one of the paramedics stayed in the back asking me questions that I didn't know the answers to, he kept monitoring her, "do you have her blood glucose meter?" he asks me I nod and grab her bag pulling out her meter, and passing it to the paramedic, I intertwined my hand with hers, as he opens it up and sets everything up to test her levels, "so what's your name?" he asks me trying to calm me down with small talk, "its erm Lucy" I say not taking my eyes of her as she laid there unconscious, "my names Tim, the one driving is Graham" he says with a smile, I smile back weekly moving my eyes back to Toni, "so how long have you guys been together?" he asks I look to our hands and up to him, "only a week... we was on our first date" I say he smiles at me, "hey, she's going to be fine, she's in the best hands, I promise..." he says with a smile, when the ambulance stops he gets up and walks to the doors, with them opening from the outside, he steps down and pulls the breaks of the bed, and pulls it down the ramp, I follow behind as I see Tricia walking up to the hospital she spots me and runs over with her mum and dad.

"hey Lucy, how are you?" Tricia says pulling me into a hug, I pull away wiping my eyes "I'm just worried" I say as, her mum pulls me into a hug, "come on lets follow them" she says as she pulls away, they walk ahead as I wait behind with Tricia, she takes my hand and we follow behind, "she's going to be fine" we walk down the hospital hallways following the porters who was pushing Toni, me and Tricia got told to wait in the waiting room as her mum and dad went with her, "we will come get you guys if anything happens" her mum says as she rushes behind Toni. I sit down and slump my head in my hands I feel a hand on my back, I remember her car is still at the beach I look up to Tricia, "someone's got to get her car" I say she looks to me, and pulls her phone out it rings and then someone answers, "hey James could you go pick up my sisters car from the beach please?" she says and then she explains what has happened and hangs up the phone.

It had been an hour, and we heard nothing when James walks in with Ellie, "hey guys, how is she?" Ellie asks as she walks over to me giving me a hug, "she still hasn't woken up but she stable" Tricia says, James places a hand on her shoulder, me and Ellie releases from the hug and sits back down, "how are you Lucy?" she asks me, I'm still shaking from what happened, "erm... I'm just really worried" I say as tears start to fall down my cheeks again, when we see her dad walk around the corner to find a doctor, they rush back in the same direction that he just came from, I feel a hand in mine, we sat there for another few minutes when her dad came back, "she wants to see you" he says looking at me, I stand up letting go of Ellie's hand as I follow him to the room, we wander down the corridor, as he turns into a room I freeze not knowing what I would see, he holds the door open for me which I walk in and I see her laying there, she sits up and notices me and smiles, she notices tears are falling down my cheeks, "hey mum, dad, and doc, could you give us a minuet please?" she says looking to her mum she nods and pulls her dad out the room the doctor finishes his check ups and walks out the room closing the door behind him, I watch as I see her parents walk away to the waiting room...
