The New Girl

chapter 16

Toni's pov

We walked to pe hand in hand, I didn't care because the only thing that was keeping me from crashing was her, we walked round the corner to the changing rooms when she tried to remove her hand, "please..." I said squeezing her hand lightly, she looked to me with a smile and stopped moving her hand from mine, we walked in and everyone turned and stared at us we walked over to where Ellie was getting ready near our lockers, "hey ani you okay?" she asked looking concerned, I didn't say anything, and I continued getting ready, I turned and saw her with my sister smiling and laughing. I turned around slamming my locker door shut and walked out to the gym where the coach was with some students already waiting for the last few people.

I sit at the back not wanting to cause any attention to me, I pull my knees up to my chest, Lucy and Ellie joined me on either side, "Lucy told me what happened, and this isn't right she's got to be taken down man" Ellie said I turned to face her, "no" I said quietly, so coach couldn't hear us, turning back we sat in complete silence, coach explained what we was doing today in lesson, I wasn't really paying any attention until the last bit, "so guys today I announced the new captains and co-captains for the girls and boys football teams, which for the boys is, Brett and Thomas, and for the girls is Toni and Ellie, give around of an applause to them, practice starts tomorrow, now let's get back to lesson..." I look up and see everyone turned around looking at us, I tried a smile and a little wave I noticed my sister looking at me giving me a reassured smile.

The rest of the day went past at an agonising slow speed, but I tried my best keeping away from Roxy but some points I couldn't help it because she was in my lessons, but by the end of the day I was walking around like a zombie not paying attention to anyone, I ended up at my locker putting my school books in there so I didn't have to carry them around anymore, "hey..." Lucy said beside me but I didn't pay attention to what she was saying, "hey Toni..." I turned to her being pulled out of my daydreaming, "what did you say?" I say looking confused at her, she looked at me worried and she put her hand on my shoulder, "I said did you want to come round for tea tonight, my dad's just text me asking" she said with a sweet smile, I look up to her giving her a week smile, "I wouldn't want to damper the mood" I said, she started rubbing her hand in a soothing circle on my arm, "you won't and anyway I know what would cheer you up" she said placing a kiss on my cheek and taking my hand.

As it was the end of the day we walked out of school and turned right, I knew where she was taking me, "I thought the girls finished earlier then us..." I said confused as of why we were heading to their school, she shook her head "it's Tuesday they have after school activities" she said smiling, I remembered what I said to eve this morning which brought a smile on my face, I stopped in my tracks just a few steps away from the gates, Lucy turned to me with a worried look "hey what's wrong?" she said looking concerned, I shook my head "nothing, I'm just remembering the secret I gave eve this morning..." I said smiling "I also forgot to tell you that she doesn't like Roxy" I said laughing, "no she didn't say that did she..." Lucy said with a shocked look on her face, I nodded "yeah she said I was better than her" I said walking closer to Lucy she wrapped her arms around my neck, pulling us closer together, "so is that the secret you two made?" she asked, I looked at her and smiled and shook my head, "you're not ready to know that just yet" we heard the school bell go signalling the end of the school activities.

We unhooked and walked to the gates and waited with the other people picking up their kids, one by one kids was running out when eve and Suzie saw us and they ran straight over to us both giving Lucy a hug and then turning to me and smiling, eve ran over and I knelt down she wrapped her tiny arms around my neck the best she could and whispered into my ear, "have you asked her yet?" I chuckled to myself and whispered back, "no not yet, but I will soon" I said making her jump around with excitement, we pulled apart and I noticed Lucy smiling at us "what?" I said she just shook her head and laughed we followed her again as we walked past the café, I stopped and looked at eve, "do you want an ice cream?" I asked her eyes grew wide with excitement, "I take that as a yes then, hey Lucy come on..." I shouted to her as we started walking to the café, she turned and followed me with confusion.

We walked through the door, "hey David, can we get a cookie dough ice cream please" I looked to eve waiting for her to choose when Lucy and Suzie came up behind us, "I'm getting ice creams what do you want?" I asked Lucy she looked at me with a smile, I felt my shirt being pulled so I looked down to see eve pointing to what she wanted, strawberries and cream and I turned to Suzie who was pointing at choc chip, "can we also have a berries and cream and the double choc chip, and whatever Lucy wants?" I turn to her waiting for her order, "I'll have a cookie dough please" she said smiling, I turned back to David "can we also have a round of drinks, two diet cokes and orange juice and apple, right" I said looking at eve and Suzie they both nodded in unison, I remembered from this morning, I turned back getting my card out and handing it to David, he pressed it lightly against the card machine and handed me it back, "thanks David" I said taking my card and putting it back in my wallet.

"go sit down ill bring it all over to you" David said, so we turned and walked to a booth near the front so he could see us, "you really didn't have to do this Toni" Lucy said, I sat next to her as eve and Suzie sat in front of us, I turned to her with a smile, "I wanted to, they are my friends and I like to treat me friends every now and then" I said with a smile, she nudged my shoulder slightly, we got talking to the girls about their school day and how much fun they had today with their colouring and the after school activities they did, eve did football and Suzie did art, I smiled at how excited eve was talking about football she reminded of me when I was her age, we got our drinks and ice cream to the table I passed the ice creams around then the drinks "right apple for eve and orange for Suzie, am I right..." they both smiled as I got it correct handing them their drinks they got stuck into their ice creams leaving a mess all around their mouths, I chuckled at how messy they got, I turned and passed Lucy her drink, she smiled at me "I can't believe you remember their drink order" she said laughing to herself, I watched as she took a mouthful of her ice cream leaving a bit on the corner of her mouth, I moved my hand to her chin wiping away the spot with my thumb, our eyes met and we didn't stop staring at each other.

We broke the stair when my phone went off, I saw my mum was ringing me, I answered the phone, "hey mum what's up?" I said answering the phone, "just wanting to know what time you will be home? Sweetie" she said I turned to Lucy, and smiled "I won't be home till late I'm going round Lucy's her dads invited me to dinner" I replied back to mum, Lucy gave me a smile back, "okay honey just wanted to know I'll see you when you get home, love yea" she said and I replied "love you too mum" I hung up the phone and put it back in my pocket, "everything okay" Lucy said turning to me, I nodded and smiled, I put my hand in hers and turned back round to eve and Suzie, they had ice cream all around the mouth, I grabbed two napkins and passed one to both, "you have ice cream all over your face" I said with a smile they took it and started wiping their faces clean, we finished of our ice creams and drinks and started walking back home, I put eve on my shoulders giving her a piggy back walking next to Lucy with her hand intertwined with my free hand.
